LETTERS TO THE EDITOR LETTERS WELCOMED The Mount Joy Bulletin welcomes “letters to the editor” and en- courages readers to express their views and their opinions. However, letters must be signed by the writer, including address and telephone number. If the writer does not wish his name to be published with the letter he may so indicate and the request will be honored and the identity of the sender kept confidential. Bulletin, While some other people are having their say about some other things, I'd like to get a gripe off my chest, too. Why is it that other people in Mount Joy must put down cement pavements but on south Market avenue there are least two properties which have macadam? What’s good enough for one part of town should be good enough for the rest of town and it doesn’t make any difference who owns the property. Disgusted In my recent ‘‘letter to the editor” of the Bulletin about Clarence Schock’s gift to the schools, I said that “whatever belongs to the school belongs to the tax- payers.” Mrs. Charles, wife of the Donegal School Board president, I presume, an- swered that statement the very next week but she missed the point entirely. If anything is given to the school, it becomes the property of the school. And, anything which is school property belongs to the taxpayers. It is elementary AOS October Special! A gift may be given for a certain purpose, but once it is accepted by the school, it then becomes taxpayer owned. It may be an old- fashioned idea, I grant, but the schools do belong to the taxpayers — I think! Governor Dick was given, with some very binding restrictions, to the schools. And, thus, despite the fact it may be a definite liability, it belongs to the taxpayers. Mrs. Charles may give $10 lo a specific group or organization within the school for a special purpose without the taxpayer becoming involved. But, Mr. Schock did not give money from Joy Company to any such organization, club or special group. He gave it to the school. And, thereby, he gave it to the taxpayers. It’s very simple, really. That ‘Taxpayer’, Again “Mother” Of 12 Talks To BPW Mrs. Barbara Tremitiere, a representative of Tressler Lutheran Services, York, was guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Mount Joy Business and Hair Cut, Shampoo and Set (with this ad) & ka (®t *h \ LR | The Donegal Braves- ‘B’ squad opened Sunday’s play on the DHS field and suffered a 12-0 defeat by the unbeaten Black Knights. The Braves ’ offense was beset by six fumbles as they struggled to mount a drive. Steve Butz, Steve Meszaros, Frank Brommer and Steve Neal were just not able to get the offense rolling. Mean- while, the defense, led by Phil Landis, Jeff Duke, Cory Heisey and Craig Lehman, were constantly being tested and when a fumble on their own 13 gave the visitors a first down, the defense finally succumbed with about two minutes left in the half and Hempfield led, 6-0. Then late in the second half a punt was blocked by Hempfield and the Knights tallied once more for their 12-0 triumph. The Braves’ ‘A’ team wasted little time getting on the board as Scott Jones took the first play from scrim- mage and exploded for 63 yards and the score. Darryl Shank flipped to Jones for Professional Women’s Club held at Hostetters. Mother of 12, three natural ‘and nine adopted children, she spoke on ‘‘Children Around the World”. She used slides as aides to show that regardless of race or creed children will be the citizens of tommorrow’s world. The program was arranged by the World Affaures committee with Mrs. Harold Keller as chairman, members of the committee are: Mrs. Clayton Bell, Mrs. Jay Meckley, Mrs. Richard Dillinger, Miss Peggy Keller, and Mrs. ‘Herbert Sarver. Music selections were presented by children of club members: Judy Weidman, Carole Musser and Helen Keller, ac- companied by Sandra Heisey. Mrs. Gerald Sheetz, president, conducted the business session. Two new members were voted into the club: Mrs. Elwood Rice and Mrs. Eugene Grove. Mrs. A.P. Mitzkavitch reported for the auditing committee; Peggy Keller, Mrs. William Barto and Mrs. Lester Roberts reported on events discussed by the Bicen- tennial organization. Three delegates and three alternates were elected to attend the Fall District meeting: Mrs. Sheetz, Mrs. John Fry, Mrs. Ronald Hart, Miss Mary Jane Hoffer, Miss Alice Keller and Mrs. Barry Etsell. The club voted to sponsor a hobby show, for all ages, at the Donegal high school gymnasium as a benefit for the school’s effort to raise funds to complete its new auxiliary gymnasium. Each member present was presented a marigold to be worn as a Corsage during National Business Women’s Week, Oct. 20-26. 4 FA £% I ’ t the PAT and Donegal led 8-0. The rest of the half was a defensive struggle as Brian Ney blocked two punts and Mitch Johnson recovered a fumble. The third quarter was all Hempfield as the Braves were on defense the entire quarter, but with Kyle Krady, Joe Butz, Bob Pyle and Ney digging in, no scoring was allowed. In the last period Jone charged 12 yards for another score and Donegal came away a 14-0 winner, and remained in the running for a divisional title. In the ‘C’ game once again, was a defensive battle, Darrel Risberg, Jim Perry, Billy Dishart and Scott Hoover threw up a stone wall which Hempfield was unable to penetrate. In the second quarter, Tom Lucabaugh blocked a punt and the Braves had a first down on their opponents’ one yard line. Todd Butz bulled over for the score and then flipped a pass to John Ott for the PAT and Donegal stood on top 8-0, at the half. After the intermission the visitors also played fine defense and the game went down to the last five seconds when Todd Butz, looking for someone to pass to, found his receivers covered and promptly scampered 29 yards for the score himself. On the final play, Butz tossed to Lucabaugh in the end zone and the ‘C’ team raced off with a 16-0 victory as they too kept alive divisional title hopes. This coming Saturday, Oct. 5, the Braves will travel to Elizabethtown to tangle with the Bears under the lights.
