Pekarek, a student at W.I. Beahim junior high school, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Pekarek Donegal Springs Road. More than 200 junior chess ‘ players are expected to compete in_ the five-day event sanctioned by the U.S. Chess Federation. This is the first time in five years that the U.S. Junior Open has been held on the East Coast. Dr. Will Lyon, advisor to the F&M Chess Club, said each participant will play eight rounds under the Swiss System. The tournament is open to any young man or woman under 21 years of age as of August 9.
