Wigbels has announced that his company plans to file new local ser- vice rate schedules with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission this month. New rates would affect some 190,000 customers in western, central and south central Pennsylvania. ““There’s no question that new rates are a must. We've been hit hard by inflation, just like everyone else. Our earnings are below what they must be to maintain the good ‘credit rating’ that enables us to attract needed funds at realistic rates,” Wigbels said. “Our type of company requires large sums of money each year to pay for new switching equipment, cable and transmission facilities which, for exam- ple, total $55 million in 1974- 75. So we are now borrowing and investing more money than ever before and at higher interest rates than ever before. “Our staff has made studies that show we must obtain urgently needed additional annual revenues of about $52 million. These are preliminary figures, and we will trim the amount of our rate increase request to the least we require.” “We are well aware of our customer’s disappointment with inflation and even frustration. So are all of our employees. But we as a telephone company follow rather than lead inflation. Our business is a vital ser- vice to our fellow citizens, and we have to spend money for equipment and supplies even when it would seem prudent to retrench and withhold spending inflated dollars for price-inflated materials.” 3» § Mount Joy Bulletin - Page 3 Beach, Debra Blasick, James Byrd, Stephanie Deatrick, Donna Ebersole, Cheryl Felty, Rory Gallagher, David Heisey, Wendy Golden, Karen Greider, Deanna Grimm, Deb Hay, Karen Henry Ted Hershey, Tim Howell Willard Keener.
