She is a member of the Glossbrenner United Methodist church, where she is active in the choir and youth group. She will enter the licensed practical nursing program at the Willow Street Vo-Tech School following graduation from Donegal. Parker Competes With Rifle Company Richard C. Parker, who is now attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania, recently competed at the 26th Annual MidWestern Invitational Drill Meet held at the University of Illinois. Rick competed as a member of Pershing Rifles Company L-8's Exhibition Drill Squad. Pershing Rifles is a National Military Honorary Fraternity named after General John J. Pershing. Rick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Parker, Mount Joy, Rl. He is a junior, majoring in mathematics. Rick also is a member of the I.U. orienteering team, a new sport spreading across the country. He is employed at Bam- Welcome Wagon Club Holds Officers Cheri Dillow has been named president of the Mount Joy Welcome Wagon club. Election was held at the organization's dinner meeting, Wednesday, April 17. Other officers chosen include: Lee Bickford, 1st vice-president; Janice Shelly, 2nd vice-president; Helen Ebersole, recording secretary; Susan Back, corresponding secretary; Ruth Moore, treasurer, and Donna Voytek, historian. Installation will be held at the Mount Joy Legion on May 15. The Mount Joy Welcome Wagon Club held its monthly board meeting at Theresa Rissmiller’s home on Wednesday, April 3. Five new members were reported to have joined the club this month. The annual June Social is being planned for dinner and a play at Mt. Gretna. Club members will decide whether to make it a “Couples Night’ or for “Ladies Only’. This month’s dinner meeting was held on April 17 The speaker for the evening was Lawrence Large of the Manheim Township school district, who talked on drugs and how it concerns the youth (even elementary children) in our own area. The next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1 at Billie Ann Oxford’s home at 7:30 p.m. Anyone who recently moved to the area and is interested in receiving a Welcome Wagon call from a hostess, may contact Shirley Brown, 653-2218. Ivan H. Hess Retires from PPL A Maytown resident is among recent retirees from the Pennsylvania Power & Light company. He is Ivan H. Hess, who was an employee for 23 years. Hess started with PP&L as a commercial sales representative in Lancaster. He served as assistant to the district managers of New Holland and Columbia, until he was named commercial sales promotion supervisor in 1966. He attained his most recent position as consumer affairs director in 1972. A native of West Willow he is a graduate of West Lampeter Vocational high school. Active in business and trade organizations, Hess is a past member of Associated Builders and Contractors and the Illuminating Engineering Society. He is a member of the Lancaster berger’s Service station, Elizabethtown, and also the Elizabethtown Chronicle, and Masonic Homes. His future plans are to attend Harrisburg Area Community college and to go into radio engineering. Mr. and Mrs. Hess reside at 15 South Harter St. Show N-C Earnings At Record High Record earnings from regular operations and a non-recurring gain of 50 cents per share raised National-Standard company earnings to $1.07 for the quarter ended March 31, according to N-S Chairman T. H. Pearce. The previous vear’s earnings were 40 cents per share for the comparable period. For the six months, ear- nings were $1.66 per share, including non-recurring gains of 62 cents, versus 77 cents a year ago. Sales volume for the six months was a record $101 million, an increase of 15 per cent over $88 million in 1973. Sales volume in the second quarter was a record $54.3 million, 14 per cent higher than the $47.6 million quarter in 1973. RUSSELL U.
