Leisure Club Members Hear Program By Obsolete Musical Instrument The Mount Joy Leisure held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 8, in the Florin Fire hall with 95 members present. The meeting was called to order by President Eva Groff with the pledge of allegiance to the flag followed by the secretary's report by Nedra Brant and the treasurer’s report by John Heidlauf. The feature of the meeting was a program of hymns and old favorite songs, played on an unusual musical in- strument call a Una-Fon. It consisted of a large board on which was mounted four rows of bell-sounding metal castings. A key board, similar to 4 piano, controlled a 12-volt battery, which in turn caused the metal to sound and produce the tones. An obsolete instrument, the Una-Fon displayed is very rare because it has four rows of musical units. About a dozen three-tiered ones may be found in museums. The equipment is owned by the Getz Brothers and was played by Amos Rutt. Members of the club and their guests joined in singing. Mrs. Bertha For- man and Mrs. Lillian Eby arranged the program. George Groff reported from the Community Council and Lena Eshleman reported 13 cards sent to shut-ins.For the months. of April, May and June, Mrs. Walter Scheffler will be in charge of sending the cards. Alice Troutman presented the Leisure Club with a quanity of cards which will be used and mailed to the shut-ins. Mrs. Cyrus Gainer reported the Peanut Crunch is about all sold. This is a money-making project for the club. * President Eva Groff stated that plans for the bus trip to Sterling Forrest Gardens are completed and paper was passed among the members for signatures by" those planning on taking the trip. Forty signed up. President Groff also read a letter from Hershey Park stating that June 17 will be Senior Citizen Day at the park. She needs fo know by the next meeting how many will go. If there are enough members going, a bus will be hired. The following new members were introduced: Eva Reigle, Anna Landis, Lena Engle, Cathrine Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Herr. Guests in- troduced were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Good, Betty Gamber, The bride-elect was graduated from Donegal high school and the Willow Street Practical Nursing Program. She is employed by Dr. David E. Schlosser. Mr. Libhart is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald A. Libhart of Marietta R1. He was graduated from Donegal high school and , attended Lock Haven State college. He will attend Millersville State college this fall, majoring in biology. Enda Brubaker and Mrs. Lauver. The following hostesses were appointed for the May meeting: Mary Shonk, Dorothy Milligan, Mary Rhinehart, Mrs. Emma Sheldon, Mrs. Effie Stauffer, Mary Shaeffer, Mrs. Ethel Shoop and Mable Sliver. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary was sung by the group to those having birthdays and an- niversaries in April. President Groff read a letter concerning the “75 Plus” banquet, which will be held June 13. All who are 75 or older residents of the mount joy area with a Mount Joy mailing address- are eligible t o attend Anyone who did not receive an invitation may call Rev. Stephen Getty, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, or President Groff. The next meeting will be an auction. Members were asked to take an unwrapped article that can be auctioned off to the members. Following the business meeting, Arthur Braun gave the invocation and cake and coffee was served to the members. Scouts At Echo Trails On April 5,6&7 Girl Scout Junior troop No. 32 went camping at Echo Trails at Felton, Pa. Echo Trails is an established Girl Scout Camp for the Penn Laurel Council. The girls enjoyed singing, hiking, using reflector ovens and making pancakes on buddy burners. They took a hike at night to do some star gazing. On Saturday night, a “Scouts’ Own’’ was held. A Scouts’ Own is a ceremony expressing the spirit of Girl Scouting. The theme was “Our Country’’. Patriotic songs were sung, the story of “The Star-Spangled Ban- ner’’ and ‘‘Hiawatha’s Childhood’’ were read. The following girls and adults attended: Trudy Rafferty, Theresa Meyers, Tammy Hocking, Colleen Brubaker, Rhonda Shank, Stacy Stark, Roxanne Shank, Sherri Brackbill, Julia Whitesel, Diane Pardoc, Beth Gainer, Maxine Maxwell, Marcie Yvonne Lightner, Shelly -Schwert, Julie Barnhart, Tracee Gotwalt, Robin Bricker, Sharon Buckley, Rhonda McKain, Tracee Maxwell, Colleen Jones, Jean Mark, Theresa Good, Cindy Robinson, Jonna Rose and Sherre Gallagher. Tracy Hoover was a guest of the troop. Also Mrs. Shirley Good, mother of one of the girls, attended. Mrs. Nancy Kopf and Miss Ella Gainer are leaders of troop No. 32.
