Page 6 - Mount Joy Bulletin March 20, 1974 Two Elementary Wrestlers Win Crowns At Manheim On Tuesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 7, the Donegal elementary wrestling program sent 18 boys to the Manheim Wrestling Tournament. Two boys were crowned cham- pion of their weight class and one took a 2nd place. The Donegal boys competed with approximately 240 boys from 10 Lancaster county schools and three area Boy’s Clubs. Donegal finished the preliminary and quarter- final rounds on Tuesday night with eight boys eligible for the semi-finals on Thursday. In the semi-finals, Joe Gilmartin, Phil Landis and John Anspach defeated their opponents to advance to the final round. The finals matched Joe Gilmartin against Gary Schneup from the Lititz Boy’s Club. These two boys were finalists last year with the same result. Gary defeated Joe by a 4-0 decision. Phil Landis went against Rick Nauman of E-Town and won a 4-0 decision to take the championships. John Anspach, in the heavyweight division drew another E- Town opponent, William Harnly. Services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Boyer funeral home, Elizabethtown, and burial was made in the Mount Tunnel cemetery. JOHN (CHRIST) KLUMPP John “‘Christ’”’ Klumpp, 79, of 140 E. Market St. Marietta, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in Columbia hosptial after an illness of several weeks. A retired employe of Hamilton Watch Co., he was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, and Ashara Lodge 398, Free and Accepted Masons, both of Marietta. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Born in and a lifelong resident of Marietta, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Mary Flaig Klumpp. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Howard M. Groff, Moscow, Idaho, and Elizabeth Klumpp, Mount Joy. Services were held Monday from the Smedley funeral home, Marietta, and burial was made in the Marietta cemetery. decision. Trinity Evangelical Church Names Two Guest Speakers Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church at Donegal and New Haven Streets will have Rev. John E. Moyer of Reading, district superintendent, and Rev. William Weiser of Lancaster as guest preachers during spring evangelistic services. Special music will be provided by the Gospel Three of York. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sundays and at 7:30 p.m. during the week of March 24-31. Welcome Wagon Club To Hold Another Fun Nite The monthly board meeting of the Mount Joy Welcome Wagon club was held at the home of Cheri Dillow on Wednesday, March 6. Because last month’s “Fun Night’ was such a success, the board discussed the possibility of alternating a similar event with the monthly dinner meetings. Different activities will be planned, along with socializing and dessert and coffee. The club’s craft group will be meeting on Thursday, March 14 and 28, at the home of Billie Ann Oxford, beginning at 8 p.m. This month’s project is cake decorating. The March dinner meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Joy Legion. Peters, a resident of the Mount Joy Area, a Pennsylvania State Police officer, was one of six men signally honored last week for outstanding ser- vice. A member of Troop J, stationed at Avondale, Peters and five others were issued letters of com- mendation for their work in apprehending within 38 minutes a burglary suspect on February 7. Professional knowledge, ability and keen attention to detail were cited as reasons for the award. Three other officers were cited the same day for work on a robbery case. Peters and his wife, the former Linda Witmer, live -in Mount Joy RI. Kraybill School To Register Kindergarteners Registration for students in kindergarten through grade 9 for the 1974-75 school year at Kraybill Mennonite School has begun. Children who will be five years of age on or before September 1, 1974, may be registered now for the kindergarten testing later this spring. Interested persons should contact Principal Leon W. Honor Nearly 100 Scouts At Father, Son Banquet On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Mount Joy troop 39 Boy Scouts held its annual Father and Son banquet at the Mount Joy Diner with 43 Scouts and fathers at- tending. The dinner was planned by Gerald Alleman and the patrol leaders council. Mr. Alleman, Troop 39 com- missioner, served as Master of Ceremonies and the Patrol leaders conducted the program and awarded 77 hard-earned awards to deserving scouts. The speaker for the evening was Joe Shaeffer, former Mount Joy Post- master. His theme was “Our Country’s Centennial’ and the celebration to come. He discussed the 1951 Mount Joy Centennial celebration and all that was involved to make it such a great success. Alleman presented awards of merit for service to Dale Boyer, Scout Master; Bill Dommel, assistant Scout Master: and Irvin Smith Jr. Ninety-eight awards were presented for ad- vancements, merit badges, and for other achievements. Name Granddaughter Pa. Maple Queen At Somerset Miss Ann Louise Meyers, a senior at the Somerset Area high school, was named Pennsylvania Queen Maple during competition at the Greater Johnstown Area Vo- Tech School. Miss Meyers, is the ‘daughter of Rev. and Mrs. H. James Meyers of Somerset, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Arthur Meyers of W. Donegal St., Mount Joy. The blonde, hazel-eyed winner presented an original monologue and art work, “For My Brother’, as her: talent sleection. Placing herself in the setting of a Civil War home, Miss Meyers ‘‘talked’’ to her brother, Johnny, who was off fighting in the war. The Pennsylvania Maple Queen will reign during the 27th annual Pa. Maple Festival in Meyersdale. The festival’s highlights will be held March 29-31. Miss Meyers and her courst received scholar- ships, gift certificates, savings bonds and trophies. Nine Who Visited In France Give Jr. High Program Nine girls who went to Grenoble, France, during the summer of 1973, presented an assemboy program at W.I. Beahm Junior high school on Thursday, March 7. Brenda Eshelman opened the program by telling how the group managed to go to France. Ramona Sell filled in on the group’s activities while in France and Selissa Stauffer and Cheryl Heaps presented a slide program. Gail Grissinger and Jennie Heistand played Petanque, which is a popular french game, At the end of the program, a question and answer period was conducted by Sue Gohn. Other members of the group are Donna Peters and Marcia Weidman. About 80 per cent of the books published in Brazil are sold in Rio de Janerio and Sao Paulo. COIN CLUB The Mount Joy-Florin Coin Club will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, March 25 at the Mount Joy Restaurant at 7 p.m. There will be an election of officers for the new year and refreshments will be served. Two Mount Joy Companies Make Run To E-Town Both Florin and Friend- ship fire companies of Mount Joy were called Monday morning to the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown when fire broke out and threatened life and property. Friendship’s ambulance also made a run to the scene. But, fire was held to a relative minimum and the ambulance was not needed to evacuate guests. Open House Set By Legion Post For March 29 W.S. Ebersole Post 185 American Legion will hold an Open House, Friday, March 29, from 6 to 10 for Viet-Nam Veterans. This project is to be State wide and is to welcome the Viet-Nam Veterans and acquaint them with the American Legion.
