They went on to Mackinac Island, crossed the Straits of Mackinac bridge, and spent some time at ‘“The Soo’ in northern Michigan, where the world-famous locks are located. After a four-hour boat trip across Lake Michigan, they visited Milwaukee. In Chicago they took a night-time look at ‘“The Windy City’ from atop the new skyscraper. The Prudential Building, shopped at Marshall Fields department store, and had dinner and lodging at the renowned Bismarck Hotel. Is it possible that there are more catacombs in the area than the ones immediately uner The Catacombs? mmm mf ele Recently, while preparing to erect new girders at the Lancaster Leaf Tobacco warehouse it was discovered that there are some subterranean rooms under at least a portion of that building. ++ Two rooms have been discovered and no -one has learned that there are not others. ph Now, the question revolves around whether the ones at the old malt house connect with those under the old Central Hotel. +44 Henry Gingrich, who is the major owner of the Central House, went exploring in the newly-found caverns but was not able to be sure about any con- necting rooms or passageways. ep However, during the time of the big fire this past summer, when tons and tons of water were poured onto the blazing tobacco warehouse, water was discovered seeping into the Central Hotel and Catacombs underground chambers.
