Dean registered at the Lancaster State Police Barracks in the Spring and was one of 47 Lancaster county boys between the ages of 11 and 13 to be picked at random for the all-expense paid first-hand look at the life of a State Policeman. During the week he toured the State Police Academy in Her- shey, enjoyed the State Police Rodeo, toured a helicopter, rode in a State Police car, heard a presentation by the Fish and Game Commission and watched a demonstration on antique rifles. The group received T shirts with the State Police in- signia, patches and a certificate. Cub Scout Pack no. 136, parents and guest travled by bus on Friday evening, August 24, to Philadelphia to see the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Phillies play in Veterans Stadium. The Phillies were defeated, 3-0. Approximately 75 from Mount Joy attended. In charge of arrangements were: Robert Mark, cubmaster, and John Shireman, assistant cubmaster. Several Mount Joy area families entertained two French boys for six weeks this summer. The boys were Gilles Reynier from Nice and his cousin Frederick Robin from Grenoble. Both boys are 16 years old and were brought ta the United States under the Lions International Student Exchange Program, sponsored by the Mount Joy Lions Club, with Jay Barnhart as chiarman of the program from Mount Joy. The two boys were part of a group of 106 students from France. The boys spent time with the following families: Mr. and Mrs. Jay Barnhart, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gingrich, Mr. and Mrs. James Becker, Mr. and Mrs. John Zeller, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Witman, Mr. and Mrs. James Eshelman, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Brenneman and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sheetz.
