Page 6 - Mount Joy Bulletin RANDOM NOTES Borough Council from 6/11/73 --Council President Elmer Zerphey removed himself from the Public Safety committee and appointed Councilman Ammon Smith in his place. --PennDOT said that it has no immediate plans for repairing, enlarging or rebuilding the East Main street bridge over Little Chicques creek. The borough had been asked about providing some kind of ‘‘pedestrian’’ arrangements on the relatively narrow and very busy bridge. The borough, now, has asked that the Lancaster Planning com- mission place the request at as high a priority level as possible. --Property line surveys along Pinkerton, road immediately south of Marietta avenue, were displayed, upholding the borough’s contention that it has a 33-ft. right of way and control of the thoroughfare despite recent contentions. --New Standard has been given notice to correct zoning violations in a ‘warehouse’ area. June 22 was set as the deadline. --A citizen’s request that two parking spaces be created on the north side of Marietta avenue, im- . mediately east of New Haveh, was denied. A visability problem because of a hedge was cited as the reason. Borough regulations set out that hedges must be no more than four feet high for a distance of 50 feet ‘’back’’ from street intersection lines. Satisfaction was expressed with the current use of leased automobiles as means of providing police curisers. --Extensive repairs to the borough refuse truck were authorized. --Authorization was given for preparation of a resolution to require the removal of trees, near Mount Joy and Barbara streets, considered to be “hazardous.” --Consideration has been given to moving the “‘firemen’s emergency’ parking area from near the rear of the National Central bank on Market Street to an area along the same street immediately north of Apple Alley and on the west side of Market. --Agreements tentatively were reached and contracts displayed about the handling of surface water from _a proposed development in an area roughly bounded by Chocolate avenue, Donegal Springs Road, Angle street and Bridge ave. Water will be piped into a swail area on the Henry Stoltzfus farm. --The important need for an additional water source for the borough was emphasized. Unless the new well now being drilled west of the boroughs along Donegal Springs road brings in a satisfactory flow, there may need to be building restrictions made until a new source can be found. VALUES It is easily observable that the people who get most out of life are those who are able to laugh, to love, to be humorous, to fan- tasize, and who permit them- selves to enjoy uplifting em- otional experiences. Whatever else we do, these qualities can add much to our lives. The best part is that we can learn or relearn to express them. Sometimes we let things slip away from us because we neglect placing a high value on them. Being serious is fio more im- portant than having times of lighthearted enjoyment.
