Originally, the carnival was to have been held on Delta and Henry and permission to close the streets had been given by the Borough Council. However, when it developed that the baseball lights . would be ready by June 2, a shift in location was made. The Mount Joy Jaycees are in charge of the carnival arrangements. The entire firemen’s convention program is under the local sponsorship of the Mount Joy Firendship Fire Company No. 1 and the Florin Fire company. Friday night’s activities include a memorial service and a fellowship meeting. Firemen will meet at the Florin Fire company house at 7:15 p.m. and then go in a body to nearby Glossbrenner United Methodist church. One of the features will be the presentation of long-stemmed roses to widows of firemen deceased within the past year. Afterwards, firemen will return to the Florin hall for a fellowship time and refreshments. Both local fire companies have been working diligently for the past several months to ready their headquarters for the big day, spreading paint, and in general getting their premises in apple pie over for the influx of the hundreds of visitors expected. Because the building is relatively new, only one painting job has been done in the meeting room at the Florin company. A first class housekeeping job is being completed this week - waxing floors, washing windows etc. - to have the headquarters shipshape by the weekend. All four pieces of Florin company’s rolling equipment will be in the parade. In preparation for the big weekend, Friendship company, too, has been working hard at getting ready. The entire social room area has been revamped in the past few months and the stair wells painted - among other improvements. This week firemen planned to give the second-floor meeting room a thorough house cleaning. : Friendship Fire company will have its four pieces of equipment included - three pumpers and its ambulance - in the parade. Police Chief J. Bruce Kline said last week that he has asked for 100 fire police to help with the crowd and traffic control for the afternoon. Emphasizing the anticipated size of the parade itself, he asked the state for permission to establish a detour around the parade area between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. By contrast, the permit last week for the Memorial Day parade was from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, traffic west of Mount Joy will be detoured off Road 230 at the Rheems crossing (Farm Diner corner). Parade headquarters will be set up at Gehman’s Furniture and Interior store. Registration for parade participation will begin at 10 a.m. Late last week, a tally of parade entries indicated that there will be eight divisions in the line of march, in- cluding an Honor Division. Committments had been made for more than 145 pieces of apparatus. At least 12 pieces of antique equipment, including motorized and hand drawn, are expected. A total of 18 band - seven high school, two adult, two string bands, and seven drum and bugle corps - are booked. Also, there will be assorted comic units, baton groups, drill teams etc. AUCTIONS make the difference in marketing livestock! NEW HOLLAND makes the difference in auctions!
