Personal preference, laundry facilities, and how much use the sheets will get will determine this. For an average family, in most cases, four sheets is a minimum number for each bed. This allows for two on the bed, with two available for change and laundering. If you have small children, an older person, or an invalid, you may feel you need more than two sheets for a change. Researchers tell wus that sheets wear longer if they're changed often and rotated in use, But most people agree that we don’t need a dozen sheets for each bed, as was recommended in the past. Modern washers and dryers make laundering quick and easy. And then, too, storage can be a problem. But most homes have space available to store two sheets.
