Selection of a poject, he said, has been underscored with the purpose of maximizing the usefulness of the project and honoring Clarence chock (although the name of Schock was not mentioned, Board members heard two special reportes. One was by Gene Newcomer, elementary guidance director, who has during the past 18 months de- veloped a brand new pro- gram of student (and teach- er) helps. He placed emphas- is upon the need to find and to remedy problems of pupils as early as possible in their school career. The second was by Lewis Brown, high school biology teacher, who under the en- couragement of Donegal ad- ministrators, has been de- velopeing a new biology manuel. He has observed, he pointed out, that most man- uels are written by city men for city oriented schools. He has concentrated on compil- ing a pupil aid which is rele- vant to our local situation, “where,” he said, “we have woods, fields, and trout streams.” Bids for shop supplies and medical supplies, totaling ap- proximately $6,500 were ac- cepted. . WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, 1971 eent—————— re Lote LL facing the very best competi- tion in the entire state of Pennsylvania, To say that such a situa- tion is “tough” is a major un- derstatement of the high school sports world. One thing suggested as a possible problem for the young jumper was that the approach for both long and high jumps were made on ar- tificial turf. Heisey and Lancaster coun- ty athletes jump off cinders and good old Mother Earth. Portser suggested that per- haps there was just enough added “spring” in the turf to throw off Heisey's timing. Too, the lad who has thril- led track watchers this spring definite’y is a hot weather performer. Saturday at Penn State was not hot weather, Portser already has made a note to get Heisey outdoors early — March, probably — jumping without sweat ciothes, tempering him for foul weather. Thus, the lessons of the pits ar2 bzing learned. Golf Tourney Earl Koser was winner Sunday, May 23, of the Mt. Joy Golf association’s first tournament of the season, played over the Cool Creek course at Wrightsville, He shot an 88 with a 22 handicap for a net 66. Following the winner were G. Greiner and Mike Pricio with 68’s; E. Crawl with 69; Don Drenner, and Elias Lin- demuth, 71’s. Closest to the pin shots were by G. Greiner, E. Lind- emuth, G. Page, B. Hurst and J. Allen. : Sixty-six golfers partici- rated. B. Young and G. Grei- ner posted the lowest gross scores at 81. Donegal Baseball It was a sad way to close out the season, but Thursday afternoon, May 20, Donegal’s baseball team did bring the 1971 campaign to a close, ab- sorbing a 3-0 shutout from visiting Penn Manor, Held to only two hits, Tribe tailed all the way. Manor chased a pair of runs across in the top of the first and added another in the final frame. Reineer stingied up only the pair of blows and whif- fed 11 Indians. Lou Sargen, on the other hand, was tag- ged for five Dbingles and struck out four. The Donegal singles—went to Zeller Brown. ; The Indians finished the season with a 5 - 9 record, just off the cellar floor.
