Were they stunned? No, probably not much. ®e © o What's wrong with Mount Joy? ® ©® © One of the community’s newer residents this week stopped in at the Bulletin of- fice to say that he does not see too many things wrong. ® © ® In fact, he thinks this as an unusually nice town and it is his observation that a little more cooperation to accom- plish some few things, thru established channels, is what is needed. © © o We agree! ® © eo There isn’t too much wrong with Mt. Joy. In fact, there are a lot of things which are very right, The emphasis needs to be on making “a good town better”! ® © oo Someone pointed out this week that the new governor of the Commonwealth seems to be catching on fast to the ways of politics, When he speaks of cutting expenses he touches the two most sen- sitive nerves in the body of the citizenry. He speaks of cutting school funds and wel- fare. ® © oo How better can he probe for more taxes? ® © o It sounds out of place this week, of course, but this winter, thus far, has not been as cold as usual. And, there is a system of measuring cal- led ‘‘degree days” to prove the fact, ® © oo Oil companies, particularly, are interested in degree days, for it tells them a great deal about how to meet their de- livery committments. ® @ B® The facts of this winter are that less fuel is being burned than usual. Now, if you, as a consumer, measure fuel in dollars spent, you might won- der. But, it is likely that an increased price of fuel may have eaten up the gain made by favorable weather, ®e © +o Just for the record, about now we are approximately 500 degree days better off than a year ago. It is a collection of 365 lit- tle “nature” gems, one for each day of the calendar year and appropriate to the time and the season, We think we would like a copy of our own! », * * And while we're in a “book- ish” vein, we can't resist suggesting that an all-time best seller, H. G. Wells’ “Out- line of History” makes migh- ty fascinating reading! We've been almost a year reading it, ten pages a day when we could find the time, But now we are almost finish- ed, and it has been a richly rewarding experience, There’s no other book which we know of that gives such a comprehensive picture of “the whole story of man.” And it throws light in many places on happenings in our world today. Its 962 pages are eminently worth while!
