NANCY NEWCOMER | ee ——————————————— A surprise birthday party was held Saturday evening, Jan. 9, for Mrs. Richard Hoo- ver by the following friends and family; her mother, Mrs. Christine Hawthorne; her husband and children, Steve, Cindy and Scott; friend, Bob Myers; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Zerphey and children Sheri, Steve, Laurie and Mark, Mr. and Mrs. John Miller and daughters, Stacy and Marty; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coover and children Joe and Kerry. They enjoyed a cooperative supper and “gag” birthday gifts. The party was held in the home of the Zerphey family on South Market Av. * * *® " the In Florida for one week during Christmas holidays were Randy Weiser and Dave Myers. They left Dec. 26 and drove straight through to Miami in 22 hours. They spent three days in Key West with temperatures in the 80's, swimming and surfing, and two days in West Palm Beach They had a taste of the good old summertime while their family in Mount Joy shoveled out of the latest winter snow storm. * %* * Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lutz and children Darryl, Denise, Audrey, Sylvia, Jerome, Eric and Jessica are again living in Mount Joy on South Delta street after one year in Read- ing. Mr. Lutz is employed as a sales manager for the Dia- mond Furniture Company in Reading. He travels exten- sively for the company to various furniture shows as far west as Chicago and is currently in Georgia, then home briefly and onto New York City. Mrs. Lutz reports she is happy to be back in Mount Joy and near her fa- mily. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Dar- renkamp, East Main street. * * * Mrs. Earl Geltmacher, Pine street, has been a patient at the Lancaster Osteopathic hospital for three weeks. Mrs. Geltmacher is employed by the Donegal School District as a custodian at Seiler Ele- mentary School. * * * Harry Brooks, son of Mrs. Mabel Bowman, spent his fifth Christmas with the U.S. Air Force. He was invited to spend the holidays with friends, Mr. and Mrs. David Lambert and their two young children in Athens, Greece. C. at the South Wind Motel. They enjoyed mild, sunny temperatures in the fifties, an enclosed swim- ming pool, and golfing on beautiful golf courses. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Bell, Pinkerton Road, returned last week end from a two-weeks vacation in Miami Beach at Castaways Hotel. They left Mount Joy on Dec. 26 and arrived in Miami 26 hours later via luxury train travel. Besides much relax- ing,, enjoying the ocean and sun, they took several sight- seeing trips, which included a one-day bus trip into the Everglades and sightseeing a- long the Gulf of Mexico. At the Seaquarium in Miami they watched a show of trained porpoises and sea lions featuring the famous TV personality, “Flipper”. They also enjoyed a tour of many of the fabulous hotels along Miami Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Bell were on hand for the grand opening of the very famous Neiman Marcus store in Miami. This is a depart- ment store full of specialties catering to many millionaire tourists and residents of that resort city. For instance, if a person would like a loaf of French Bread, is can be ord- ered freshly baked straight from France especially for the customer. The least ex- pensive pair of shoes is pric- ed at $60.00 . . . they were satisfied to “window shop”. * * * If you have been on a vacation, a week end trip entertained out of town friends or had a party, call me with the information at 653-5701. Mrs. Haack is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Gratch, Maytown. Mission Sunday Program Planned Sunday, Jan. 24, will be observed as Mission Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy. Miss Marianne Fague, Mis- sionary in Residence in the territory of the Central Penn- sylvania Synod, will be the speaker after a Spaghetti supper with the Young Peo- ple at 5:30 p.m. in fellowship hall. Miss Fague will give the address at a 7:30 p. m. pro- gram that evening in the san- ctuary. Miss Fague participated in the planning sessions of the International Committee of the World Day of Prayer in Bangkok, Thailand in Sep- tember. She was one of 52 women from 30 countries. Miss Fague reports that 165 countries share in the World Day of Prayer each year. Miss Fague has had a full schedule, spending days and nights in the Clearfield, Mil- ton, Bloomsburg, Hanover, Williamsport and York areas. She has met with congrega- tional groups and clusters, shared in family night pro- grams, church council meet- ings and planning sessions of organizations. She also has addressed public school and tech- school classes, service clubs and community gather- ings, visited social ministry institutions and participated in retreats and pastors’ meet- ings. Before her tenure in Central Pennsylvania is com- pleted, Miss Fague will have been present in all areas of the synaod.
