A corn and doggie roast was held at the pavilion. The business meeting followed at 8 p.m. cohducted by the president, Mrs. Phil Stumpf. #" The East Hempficld Plan- ning Commrission and town- ship supervisors met recently and approved the plan for a 5l2 acre industrial zoned lot owned by T & H on the Rohrerstown Road north of the Rt. 30 by-pass. The plan for 15 lots in six acres own- ed by Millcreek Estates and Eastside Drive off Nolt Road. In other action the super- visors approved a planning commission recommendation that the township proceed with work of updating the zoning ordinance and revis- ing the comprehensive plan. The police also reported 44 traffic arrests, 13 traffic in- vestigations, 20 neighborhood complaints, 9 stolen bicycles, 1 stolen motor vehicle, four complaints of prowlers or peeping toms, 13 cases of lar- ceny, 2 burglaries, 6 dog com- plaints, and 5 cases involving bad checks. * » » Two young Navaho Indians have come a long way from their home to spend a year in Lancaster County finding out how the rest of the world lives. At 9 .m. all elementary per- sonnel met in the new Cen- terville Elementry School building, while the second- ary teachers attended indi- vidual department meetings at the junior high school. The first day of school for all the students was Sept. 9. »* » » The Salunga Women’s club and the Auxiliary to the Sa- lunga Fire Co. began their 1970-71 Season with a theatre party to the Ephrata play- house. Thirty-two members had dinner at the Edgewater” and attended the play “I do, I do.” Plans were made for the annual banquet in October, also for the ‘clothes line” rummage sale which will be held Oct. 7 at the Salung pa- vilion. A white elephant table will be featured at the sale. Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Martin have recently return- ed to the mainland from Ha- waii, where they served for — three years as missionaries under the United Missionary Fellowship. The Martins are natives of Lancaster County and receiv- ed their missionary training at Lancaster School of the Bi- le and Missionary Intership, Inc., Detroit, Mich. Hawaii has become a melting pot for many races and. religion. Buddhism is the major religion in Hawaii,and Oriental ifluence can be felt in all areas of life. Rev. Martin served as the missionary - pastor of the Honolulu Bible church, prim- arily composed of English speaking Japanese people.
