The women of Zion Luth-
eran church, Landisville,
sponsored a showing of the
film, “A Time for Burning,”
on Sunday, Nov. 19 in the
social room of the church.
The subject of the award:
winning film concerns a con-
gregation in Omaha, Neb,
and its approach to integra-
tion. The program also in-
cluded a discussion period
led ‘by Rev. Gerald Krum,
pastor of Zion Lutheran
church.

was the speaker at the Wil-
low Street Midget football
banquet recently, held at
the Willow Valley restau-

Halfbacks Jim Poole and
Ike Rittenhouse and quarter-
back Steve Mumma have
been named tri-captains for
the 1967 season at Hempfield.
Hempfield elects captains be-
fore its final game. During
season, it uses game captains.

A talk and demonstration
on handwriting analysis was
the feature of the meeting of
the Hempfield Woman’s Club
held Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 8
p.m. at the Landisville Fire
Hall. Mrs. E. Viola Smith, a
grapho-analyst, talked on
“Understanding Through Wri-
ting! She demonstrated her
theory that a knowledge of
handwriting analysis can aid
in better understanding of
people and their problems.
A report on ‘the Holiday
Gift Bazaar was given at the
business meeting by Mrs. Bur-
nell Wagaman.
Mrs. Jack Cunningham has
been named chairman of the
music division of the Fine
Arts Dept. of the club. Future
events for members includ-
ing a meeting of the Commu-
nity Improvement Committee
at the home of Mrs. Donald
Moore, 2459 Marietta Ave.,
on Nov. 30.
The book discussion group
will meet on Dec. 5 at the
home of Mrs. Kenneth John,
290 Cooper Ave., Landisville.
Mrs. Ray Wiley will lead a
discussion on the book “Five
Smooth Stones.”

Voting mechines are assur-
ed for East Hempfield Town-
ship, according to a recent re-
port on results of Absentee
ballot counting. The voting
machine proposal carried a
five-vote edge in Nov. 7 bal-
loting. The sixteen ‘‘yes” ab-
sentee votes gave it at least
a 17-vote total edge.

The Hempfield high school
senior class presented its 3-
act play, “If a Man Answers”
at the Centerville junior high
School Auditorium in Friday
and Saturday, Nov. 17-18.
The play is a romantic
comedy about the love of
Chantel Stacey, played by
Krista Durock, whose French
mother, Germaine, cast by
Debbie Lawrence and Boston-
ian father, Richard Dum, are
constantly drawing her from
extreme liberalism to extreme
conservatism.
Other cast members were
Brad Bentzel, Liz Jones: Bon-
nie Forney, Marc Francy, Jim
Smith, Enrico Tucchiani. The
Models were Abby Guffman,
Sandy Holsinger, Valerie
York and Pat Holahan. Alan
Shuss, was play director.

served as the visiting staff at
the In-Service Workshop of
the Hempfield Union School
District at 8:50 a.m. Wednes-

field high school, Landisville.

Club met on Wednesday eve-
ning, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at
the Mount Joy Legion Post

tion was guest speaker.

Joycee-ettes Meet
Miss Lily E. Martin, Park
avenue, guidance counsellor
at Donegal high school, and
George F. Broske, School
Lane, counsellor at’ Hemp-
field high school, were a-
mong those who attended a
conference sponsored by the
Wilson College Office of Ad-
missions for guidance people
from Pennsylvania and west-
ern Maryland, Nov. 16 and
17.
The group was welcomed
to the campus by Paul Swain
Havens, a Rhodes scholar
and president of the college,
who explained that Wilson
was founded in 1869 as one
of the nation’s first colleges
for women. He reported that
Wilson has an enrollment of
741 students representing 30
states, Washington, D. C,,
Puerto Rico, and nine for.
eign countries.
At one of the sessions,
there was a simulated meet-
ing of the Admissions Com-
mittee in which the actual
credentials of unidentified
applicants were examined
and evaluated. Committee
members explained the pro-
cedures in handling applica-
tions, and the visiting coun-
sellors were invited to join
in discussing qualifications
which a college admissions
office considers. significant.

The Joycee-ettes held their

meeting on Nov. 21 at the
VFW home, at which Mrs.
Warren Foley of the Girl
Scouts was the guest speak-
er and presented us with a
slide presentation on camp-
ing. We all thoroughly en.
joyed this.
The Joycee-ettés are also
placing canisters throughout
the community stores for
“Operation Pretzel.” Opera-
tion Pretzel is to send pretz-
els to the area service men
overseas. We would appreci-
ate pictures with their names
and addresses of the local
men overseas. Please contact

etta.
