Tea to Honor Contestants Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m.| To Release Special Medal The Mount Joy - Florin Coin Club is releasing a com- memorative medal for the Mt. Joy Memorial Day par- ade. There is a limited number of antique bronze and silver medals which will be made available by coin club mem- bers who will be located along the parade route. On one side of the medal is a picture of the famous Donegal Presbyterian church and Witness Tree on Donegal Springs Rd. near Mount Joy. The church was erected in the early 1700s. The Witness Tree which stands near the church was the scene of the Congrega- tion’s pledge of Allegiance to the cause of the Colonies a- gainst Great Britain. On the reverse side is shown a plaque, briefly dis- cribing the event that took place under this virgin oak. The Witness Tree is pre- served by the Donegal Soci- ety. WHITESEL cepted a call to become rec- tor of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, filling the vacancy created by the resignation last December of the Rev. D. H. Feick. Father Whitesel is a gradu- ate of Altoona high school, the Altoona Campus of Penn State university, Juniata Col- liege, and Philadelphia Divin- ity School. He is married to the former Sara Stever of Tyrone and they are the par- ents of three children: Don- ald, Jr., Andrew, and Julia. During his ministry in Ty- rone, Father Whitesel was active in the community and area affairs. He served a term as President of the Ty- rone Ministerium and as the chaplain to Tyrone Elks Lodge No. 212. He is pres- ently a member of the board of directors of the Tyrone Community Chest, chaplain of the Citizens Fire Co., and vice-president-elect o f the Washington School P.T.A. He is also a member of the board of directors of Blair County Mental Health Assoc. In 1963 he was appointed by the Rt. Rev. John Thomas Heistand, Bishop of Harris- burg, as Archdeacon of the Altoona Archdeaconry. He has served the Dioceze of Harrisburg in its youth work and is currently chairman of the Church Pension Fund, a member of the Finance Com- mittee, Board of Missions, Executive Council, and the Liturgical Commission, and was elected as an alternate delegate to the General Con- vention of the Protestant Ep- iscopal church to be held in Seattle, washington in the Fall. The May meeting of the Mount Joy Business and Pro- fessional Women’s Club was held at Hostetters on Monday evening, May 22. Miss Nancy Rolfs, representative to the youth power conference at Harrisburg, reported on the conference. Special guest of the evening was District Di- rector Jeanette Espenshade who made her official visit to the club. Mike McDowell, senior at Donegal high school, enter- tained by singing several folk songs, including two he wrote. The ‘Girl of the Month’, Miss Mary Meszaros, was in- troduced by Mrs. Robert Brown. She was accompanied by her mother. Annual reports of all committee chairmen were Rita June May Wins Scholarship Rita Jane May, 18, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. May of 144 N. Market St, will receive the Business Ed- ucation Scholarship Achieve- ment Award from the Lan caster Chapter of Adminis- trative Management Society. The award to the Donegal high school senior will be in the amount of $100 per year for a four year period. The scholarship is extended to those high school graduates who will be fulhering their education in preparation for becoming a business educa- tion teacher. Rita will be following in the footsteps of her sister, Kathleen, a sophomore at Bloomsburg State Colege. At Donegal, Rita is secre- tary of the student council, secretary of the senior class, a member of the May Court and Homecoming Court, busi- ness manager of the magazine campaign and yearbook, sec- retary of the National Honor Society, member of the Safe- ty Corps, Future Business Leaders of America, Prom Committee and Senior Exe- cutive Committee. She was chosen as girl of the month by the Business & Professional Women of Lan- caster. Wins Varsity Award Jack Frank of Maytown, former athlete, received his second varsity award in base- ball at York Junior College last week. During both of Frank's varsity years at YJC, the team won the Penna. Junior College championships. A York official said Frank was “instrumental in achieving the two titles.” He has been chosen as the league’s all-star third base- man both years and captain- ed the 1967 squad. Also an occasional pitcher, Frank holds the league mark for stolen bases and most hits.
