Hempfield Sertoma club re-
cently was Jay Smith, Lan-
disville, Also elected were
Don Seiple, Larry Rauden-
bush and Joe Vardaro, vice
presidents; Ira Williams,
Christ Huber, Glenn Kaylor,
Joseph Wiker, George Moch-
nal, directors; E. W. Meisen-
helter, secretary, and John
Liput, treasurer. Richard
Seachrlst was named serg-
eant-at-arms, & Edward Gei-
ter, chairman of the board.
Officers were installed at the
Inaugural Ball held June 30
at 6 p.m. at the Mount Joy
Legion, by E. W. Meisenhelt«
ler, past district governor.
Several guests at the ball
included governor-elect, Lee
Machemer, Allentown, and
Miss Beverly Hollinger, of
Mountville, winner of the
Hempfield Sertoma Nursery
Scholarship. Dancing follow:

The Rev. G. Martin Ruoss,
pastor of Zion Lutheran
church, Landisville, since 60,
has resigned as pastor of the
church. J. Carl Nolt, vice
president of the church coun-
cll announced the resigna-
tion has been accepted. Nolt
said that the Rev. Ruoss had
resigned because of ‘‘person-
al considerations’ and plan-
ned to leave the ministry
and enter another profession.
The Rev. Mr. Ruoss and his
wife llve at 129 Main St.,
Landisville, are natives of
Lancaster County. He began
his ministry in Christ Luth-
eran church here in 1936. He
served in this position untll
1949 when he went to Good
Shepherd Lutheran church,
Philadelphia.

The Hempfield Junior
Chamber of Commerce board
of directors recently pledged
to support any Hempfield
Union School Board action
opposing the merger of the
Hempfield and Columbia
School Districts. The direct-
ors, voting unanimously on
their position, volunteered
their services to fight the
merger and recommend that
the school board pursue legal
action if necessary.

Awards were presented at
the completion of the first
session at Hempfield’s Girl
Scout Day Camp, Camp Alg-
onquin. Senior scouts earn-
ing program aide bars were
Susan Eiwen, Christine Fran-
cy, Judy Forney, Linda Hol-
linger, Ann Lehman, Steph-
anie Lichty, Dawn Myers.
Proficiency in the seven
basic skills in camping was

er; Junlor Unit, Kathy Evans,
Beth Hess, Irene Hart, Cadet-
te Unit, Betsy Dupree, Linda
Bulson, and Lyndell Shindler
and Andrea Hess, a tie.
All scouts participating in
the archery program receiv-
ed ribbons for their achieve-
ments.

The East Hempfield Zon-
ing Board of Adjustment re-
cently turned down two re-
quests for exceptions to the
township ordinance.
Harry Sangrey, 1501 Wil-
son Ave. was denied a re-
quest for extension of a non-
conforming use for his tract
of land which is zoned Resi:
dential II. :
The board also gave the
National Advertlsing Com-
pany of Westminster, Md., 30
days to remove a sign on the
property of Mr. Denlinger, a-
bout a mile south of Landis-
ville on the Harrisburg pike.

Lancaster with friends, Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Byrd and
son, Harold.
