OWL LAFFS

A WISE OWL
Here's one of the cutest laffs that
a reader ever we've
just got to pass it on to you.

coming, no doubt.

John Sliver gave me one for this
column, but doggone John, I plumb
clean forgot what you had told me.

In the spring a young man’s fancy

My spouse says that a recent
bride was explaining at the beauty
parlor why only married couples
were invited to her wedding. “It’s a
very clever idea, don’t you think?
Jack says if we invite only married
people, the presents will be all
profit.”
Social tact is the art of making
your company feel at home when
you wish they were.

a man was stirring. Some lug had
swiped all the spoons.

The other morning at breakfast a
local man said to his wife: “I went
to a stag party last night, dearie.”
Wifie answered: “I thought that’s
where you had been. I heard you
staggering in.’
“What is executive ability, Fath-

“Executive ability, my boy, is the
art of getting credit for all the hard
work that somebody else does.”
Sounds like a fellow I know

Electric Storm Fells Deer
On January 19, Acting Game
Protector Russell L. Thomas, Jer-
sey Shore, was called to the Gam-
ble Run area by a farmer who re-
ported that several deer had died
mysteriously on his land.
Upon investigation, Officer Thom-
as learned that the deer in question
had been struck by lightning that
flashed during severe electric
storm the evening before. Oddly,
each deer fell on its right side. The
belt struck each animal on the jaw,
then traveled down the front of
the deer to make a large hole in
the ground, Thomas said.
Tardy Duck Loses To Auto
On December 15, 1950, Game Pro-
tector William G. Matthews picked
up a female wood duck killed on
a highway near Mt. Pleasant. This
was a late-season traveler, evident-
ly headed for the Mississippi fly-
way.
Attached to the woody’s leg was
a
a band bearing a serial number. U.
S. Fish and Wildlife Service re-
ported that the duck was banded
September 1, 1950, at Stevens Brook
in Franklin County, Vermont.
