OWL LAFFS

-
BY
A WISE OWL
Thought we'd have an old slam
banger of a snow when it started on
Sunday, but I was disappointed
again. Down at the city of brother-
ly love, they had the snow plows
werking full force, oh well, any-
way Ill bet the ground hog feels a
lot better.
Cappy Mumma says a fat girl may
be kidded a lot but it's the skinny
one who has to put up with an aw-
ful ribbing.

At Lancaster on Saturday there
was quite a tie up because an elder-
ly feminine driver failed to obey a
traffic cops signal.
Winding in and out through the
cars he finally reached her and ask-
ed: Don’t you know what I mean
when I hold up my hand?” And the
lady very indignantly answered:
“I ought to; I was a school teacher
for thirty-five years.”..... And was
that cop mortified.
Here's a “bit” of advice—A wife
with good horse sense never be-
comes a nag.
A patent medicine manufacturing
company received the following let-
ter from a satisfied Sporting Hill
customer: “I am very much pleased
with your remedy. I had a wart on
my chest, and after using six bottles
of your medicine, it moved to my
neck, and now I use it fora collar
button.”
Charley Eby says they call mar-
riage the sea of matrimony because
most husbands have such a hard job
keeping their heads above water.
When “Mart” Bennett first joined
the rifle team back at school, the
team captain handed her a gun and
said: “Now, take this rifle and find
out how to use it.” And Mart very
naively exclaimed: “Just tell me
one thing. Is it true that the hard-
er I pull the trigger the farther the
bullet will go?”..... Why, of eourse,
Mart.
Every heel needs a sock.
Sunday I was asked out to dinner.
During the dessert the hostess ad-
monished her son saying: “Johnny,
if you eat any more pie you'll
burst.” And Johnny reached out
saying: “Well, pass me the pie, mum
and get out of the way.”..... That's
fair warning.
After dinner that same mother
was showing a picture book to
Johnny, and pointing to the picture
of a deer she asked: “Johnny,
what is that?” Johnny answered:
“I don’t know.” Then mother con-
tinued: “But, darling, what does
your mother call your father?” And
Johnny immediately replied: “Don’t
tell me that’s a louse!”
“Bus” Kramer says “every man
has his girl, but the ice man has his
pick.”........ He means ice pick, of
course.
Our steno says: “A blotter is
something you spend your time
looking for while the ink is drying.
Here's a little matter of deduction
that one of our local pony followers
worked out. It's a handicap to be
cross-eyed. A guy who knows how
to handicap horses is a small guy to
know. Therefore it's a good idea to
bet up cross-eyed horses—Try it
sometime.

Last Thursday Jay Wissler was
dashing ‘madly about the country-
side in search of a roadstand, res-
taurant, or any public place that
may have a radio. He wanted to
hear an editorial from the Broad-
caster being broadcast.
The next day when asked if he
hea, heard it, he told of his harrow-
Ing and that he almost
missed the broadeast because he
couldn't nd a radio. Then the lis-
tener aSo4: “Why, don’t you have
a radio 1 your car? “And Jay ex-
claimed: Well I'll be. Surelde
but t all alput it.”

SPECIAL MEETING OF OUR
SPORTSMEN’S ASSO. THURSDAY

on’
There will be a special meeting
of the Mount Joy Sportsmen's
Association this Thursday evening
February 24 at 8 P. M. in the
Council Chamber to consider the
advisibility of raising ring neck
pheasants from day old chicks to
be supplied free by the State.
If any of you folks would like to
have some late celery just contact
our local postmaster, Charley Ben-
just happened to remember it last
week. When he went to the lot and
looked for it, it was still there.

Burwood Zeller went up to the
Post office on Monday for some
conversation. After the discussion
he walked down tewn, stopped to
“chew the rag”, with a friend, and
just remembered he had for-.
gotten the envelopes, He attri-
butes this lapse in memory to
“ald age’ and excess avoirdupois.
