Blind since he was a baby, Alvin is attending school for his first year in the little Elm Tree build- ing, in Rapho township. Last year he attended the school for about three weeks, but this year he expects to continue for the full term and complete at least the elementary grades with his schoolmates. He is now taking the regular work with the first grade pupils and goes to all their classes. Although all of his work must be done orally as the boy does not yet have enough knowledge of Braille to write very much, his marks in oral work are high and he is very proud that he “gets a 100 in spelling.” Every Wednesday a teacher from the local Blind Association goes to the school and teaches Alvin Braille. So far he has learned the alphabet and is just beginning to use it in his school work. Before the local Blind association found Alvin and enrolled him in its edu- cation program, the little boy was thought to be unable to go to school and learn like the sighted children. Alvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brubaker, of Rapho township, and his teacher at Elm tree is Je- rome Brubaker. — News of The Day From The Dailies BUSY FOLKS CAN KEEP POST- ED BY GLANCING AT THIS CCLUMN OF CONDENSED NEWS ITEMS Jacob Hopple, Middletown, caught a 3-1b. bass in the river.
