Cut Ditching Costs
Use of explosives often will re-
duce the cost of handling the soil in
open ditching for tile drain outlets.
This is particularly true where
stumps and roots obstruct the drain-
age line.

Napoleon Bonaparte’s Tomb
The burial place of Napoleon is
under the dome of the Hotel des
Invalides in Paris. It has the form
of a circular crypt 20 feet deep and
36 feet in diameter, open at the
top. The tomb was designed by
Visconti, and on the walls are 10
marble reliefs by Simart. The sar-
cophagus is 13 feet long, 61% feet
wide, 14% feet high, cut from a
single block of red porphyry, G67
tons in weight, surrounded by 12
“Victories” by Pradier. The in-
scription above the entrance to the
crypt is taken from Napoleon's
will: “I desire that my ashes shall
rest on the banks of the Seine, in
the midst of the French people that
I have loved so well,”
