OWL LAFFS

A WISE OWL

After the Inaugural parade at Har-
risburg yesterday I was watching two
defeated Republicans drown their sor-
rows in a battle from one of the State
Stores.
The first imbiber said: “I found
(hic) a half dollar. His pal said: “Itsh
mine, itch got my name on it.”
sh your name?” ask the first imbiber.
E. Pluribus Unum,” the chap answer-
ed. “yeah,” said the finder, “itsh your-
sh.”
We still aren’t certain whether the
garment workers went on a strike for
shorter hours, higher waist lines or
longer flounces.
One of our worldly wise young men
from Donegal street went into Thomas’
Restaurant and said: “Boy, I'm scared!
I just got a letter from a man telling
me he’d shoot me if I didn’t stay away
from his wife.” “Chuck” Bennett said:
“Well, you've got nothing to worry
about. All you have to do is stay away
from his wife.” “Yeah,” said the fel-
low, “but he didn’t sign his name and
I don’t know which one I'm to stay
away from.”

8 | He mumbled a few words in church
And he was married.
He mumbled a few words in his sleep
R| And he was divorced.
Speaking of talking in one’s sleep.
There’s a deaf and dumb husband who
| wore boxing gloves to bed so he
g | wouldn’t talk in his sleep.
A man from Florin walked reluct-
antly into Eshleman Bros. store. “I just
lost a bet,” he said, “and I want to get
a soft hat.”
The gentleman behind the counter
selected a hat from the shelf, handed
it to the prospective purchaser with
the remark, “This is the softest hat we
have.” The customer gazed at it spec-
ulatively. “What I want, he said re-
luctantly, “is something a little more
tender. I've got to eat it.”
We've just made an arrangement
with our laundry. We are to send back
all their pins if they return all our
buttons. Fifty-fifty.
A wealthy spinster from Harrisburg
peeped into her living room and in-
quired: “Has the canary had its bath
yet?” “Yes, ma'am,” answered the ser-
vant, “you can come in now.”
Then there”s Dumb Dora. She
thought a blocked kick was a square-
toed shoe.
Tragedy
Ben be nimble
Ben be quick
Ben fall over the candle stick
Ben burnie.
A gentleman from Milton Grow
visited Philadelphia last week. Whil
there he slipped on the stair of a sub:
way and started to slide down to th
bottom. Half-way down he collide
with a lady, knocking her down, an
the two continued their way to th
lower landing.
After they had reached the bottom
the lady, still dazed, continued to si
on the gentleman's chest. Looking u
at her, in his most polite Milto
Grove manner, he finally said: “Mad
am, I'm sorry, but this is as far as
”
go.
Now Dumb Dora’s sister wants to
know if a sonnet is a very small baby!
boy.
“Cappy” Mummau complained: “The
water at the Grey Iron is unsafe for
me to drink.” The fellow to whom he
was talking asked: “What precautions
do you take against it.” Well, said Cap-
py, “1 fer it? “Ves?” sald his
friend. “Then,” continued Cappy, “I
boil it” “Yes,” remarked the other.
“Finally, I add chemicals to it,” said
Cappy. “Yes,” exclaimed his interest-
ed listener. Aw, protested Cappy,
“Then I drink beer.”
The Grand Canyon stamp may be
very pretty but when there's a bill
in the envelope it only adds to that
empty feeling.
