CLASSIFY PRODUCE
FOR STATE CANNERS
Nearly nine million pounds of
tomatoes, apples and grapes were
classified dy State inspectors upon
delivery at canning factories in the
Commonwealth Bureau of Markets.
This is the result of a movement
fostered by the Pennsylvania Can-|
ners’ Association to improve the
quality of the canned goods thru
the use of higher quality raw pro-
ducts.

Under the sys-|

grower who has produced the |

the extra care and expense involv-|
ed and at the same time the can-
ner has injured the quality of his|
finished product by using the poor-
er grades of raw product delivery
by many growers.
Several canners who were ques-
tioned about the outcome of this
system of purchasing, reported
that they would never again buy
any other way. They are convine-
ed that the only way to buy their
raw products is by grade and that
they can well afford to pay big
prices for the best grade.
Farmers questioned about the

returns to grow higher quality

THANKSGIVING DAY
By Irene F. Shatto
We thank thee, Oh! Lord;
For mercies of the past,
And for the present day:
And that our lot’s been cast
In a land of Bible:
Where intelligence rules,
For colleges, seminaries,
And for our public schools.
We thank thee, Oh! Lord:
For thy unchanging love,
That thou are able to protect,
The purchase of thy blood.
And for a government so wise
To set apart this day:
And call attention to the world
To humbly. bow and pray.
We thank thee, Oh! Lord
For those who teach thy truth;
Who have gone to foreign lands,
To save the rising youth.
And most of all for thine own son,
Who died upon the tree;
To atone for all the race
Including little me.
