Nearly nine million pounds of
tomatoes, apples and grapes were
classified dy State inspectors upon
delivery at canning factories in the
Commonwealth Bureau of Markets.
This is the result of a movement
fostered by the Pennsylvania Can-|
ners’ Association to improve the
quality of the canned goods thru
the use of higher quality raw pro-
ducts.
By this method
raw produce, the canner pays a,
premium on the higher |
thus encouraging the production of |
better quality products and the |
delivery of the best grades at the]

ceived increased compensation for |

Several canners who were ques-
tioned about the outcome of this
system of purchasing, reported
that they would never again buy

raw products is by grade and that
they can well afford to pay big
prices for the best grade.

returns to grow higher quality
stock if the canners will pay a|
