py ’ { WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4(CH, 1923 STOCKYARDS SUPERVISORS HELP INDIVIDUAL SHIPPERS Supervisors of the Packers and Stockyards Administration of the United States Deparment of Agri- culture located at 19 of the import- ant live-stock markets frequently assist individual shippers with their problems. It is not necessary to come to Washington to have com- plaints heard. The supervisors make direct contact with shippers and agencies at the markets and are available every market day. Recently a country buyer bought a car of cattle from a woman and gave her a draft on the commission firm to which he would ship the cattle. He took the cattle and the woman turned the draft over to her banker. When the cattle were sold on the market the commission men applied the proceeds on al large overdraft trader. When the woman's draft arrived, the commission man refused it. The case was referred to the supervisor and by him to the Wash- ington office. Attorneys of the Packers and Stockyards Adminis. tration instructed the commission | firm that they would be required to pay the woman the proceeds from the sale of her cattle. Late re- ports were to the effect that settles ment was being made. This case is typical number of cases settled by the su- pervisors, although this ‘phase of work is only incidental to the du- ties of administering the packers and stockyards act. This act is ad- ministered by the Secretary of Ag- riculture through a special unit and was designed to prevent and correct irregularities and abuses such as un- fair, discriminatory, or of a large Spalding Base Bal best workmanship and best design WE HAVE A COMPLETE LINE SEE OUR WINDOW deceptive | Q OO00000000OO00000 DO0O0O0OOOOOCO00OOOOOCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCOOOCON ! on the part of the |unjust rates or charges on the part! practices, the control of prices, and of packers or agencies at the im- [ portant live-stock markets. | I a a] | When and Where to Buy The time to buy is now. Our normal use of barley for brewing was never more than 30 per cent of the production and this was only barley of the highest grade, for which a premium was patd. This market for fancy barley has not dis- appeared due to the fact that much fancy barley is still required for the manufacture of malts and near beers, and also because of the in- creased demand for export barley, in part due to the absence of Rus- sian barley from the market. The other 70 per cent of the crop, com- prising the lower grades, still com- petes with oats and other grains for feed and milling. The use ot a barley as stock feed has increased in recent years, because of a bet- ter realization of its value for this use, and a recognition TL kf Ng Pry = $1795 At Factory Beautiful VELIE Six Sedan At Price of Many Open Cars!
