2 December 3, 1980 BPW group hears speaker from Shelter for Women Ada Farver, assistant director of the Shelter for Abused Women, Lancaster, was guest speaker at the November session of the - Mount Joy Business and Professional Women’s Club. The Shelter, according to Ms. Farver, offers shelter to women and children beaten and abused at home and in need of temporary housing. The organization has been operating for five years and ‘there is always a waiting list. Most clients are recommended by the police department. Clients remain at the center 30 days (or longer if needed). The shelter has already lodged 625 people and counseled an additional S00. 1S volunteers man the office ‘‘hot line.”’ Mrs. George Broske pre- sented piano selections for the group. The program was arranged by the Legislation committee with Mrs. Rich- | ard White acting as chair- person. Mrs. James Spangler, a member of the personal development committee, in- troduced Donegal girl of the month, Sheri Suter, and her mother, Mrs. Paul Suter. Mrs. Herbert Sarver re- ported 144 lap robes have been contributed for the Christmas Senior Citizen project. The coverlets will be distributed by members to former Mount Joy residents now in nursing homes and state hospitals. Mrs. Abe Weidman pre- sented the club with a $150 check won for her table setting ‘‘Apples and Ivy’’ at a recent contest held at David’s Furniture in Eliza- bethtown. It was announced that the December 8 meeting will be arranged by the Music and Social committee. Susan is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. David Klepper, Jr., 234 Park Avenue, Mount Joy. An academic student at Donegal, Susan plans to attend a four year college and obtain a B.S. degree in nursing. The Pioneer Fire Co. #1, Marietta, will sponsor a special luncheon on Sunday, December 7, from noon until 6 pm. The menu will include chicken corn soup, ham or roast beef sandwich, cake or pie, and coffee at $2.50. The luncheon is open to anyone and is being held in conjunction with the Mari- etta Candlelight Tour. This third year the company has sponsored this; type of benefit.
