N an PR" Ino i at Li ji FIFTEEN CENTS Marietta Borough will seek funds for storm sewers, street construction Marietta Borough Council last Tuesday night approved the filing of applications for community development monies. Included in the proposed 1981 projects are the continuing reconstruction of storm sewers on Front Street and the connectors that lead into the sewers. Marietta has received more than $500,000 in community development funds and is requesting $105,000 for Phase 3 of the ongoing storm sewer and street constructions pro- jects. This year’s $80,000 allocation will become avail- able this week. Last year’s proposal for the $300,000 reconstruction of Front Street was denied funding. It was too early to begin that work due to the storm sewer reconstruction that was still going on. In other business, council voted to increase the trash collection fees to $10 a quarter for 1981. The operation, which now takes in $8 a quarter, is not paying for itself. Council members ap- proved a three-year contract for William Roberts, police chief. Roberts, whose cur- rent salary is $15,000, will receive a 10 percent raise the first year, a 9 percent the second and an 8 percent raise the third year of the new contract. Arbitration is continuing for the other officers’ salaries. Council voted to have a member of the police department present for the entirety of each council meeting. It was announced that per capita tax delinquents will be prosecuted by wage [continued on page 4] Donegal Braves Midget football ‘‘C’’ team, recipient of the Maxwell-Wagner Memorial Trophy for having the ‘‘winningest record’ in the Braves organization. The Donegal Braves Midget football players, cheerleaders and coaches were honored at a covered dish banquet last Thursday at Riverview Elementary School. The Braves were organ- ized twenty years ago. Gary Maxwell, Park Avenue, Mount Joy, has been involved with the Braves program since its formation. The year Maxwell grad- uated from high school he presented the idea of beginning a midget football program to people who were then members of the high school booster club. That group included Lee Holtz- man, Dr. John and Alma Gates, Sam and Dolly Maxwell, John Wagner, Earl and Yvonne Koser and East Donegal OKs fire hall addition The East Donegal Town- ship supervisors gave the go-ahead for the construc- tion of a $130,000 addition to the Maytown-East Donegal fire hall to an Elizabethtown contractor at last Thursday’s meeting. Low bidder on the project was John E. Martin, who received the contract, pend- ing negotiation of one change order. The addition will include an ambulance bay, meeting and dining room, lounge and new roof. In other matters, the supervisors reported that people caught removing or switching signs at Rock Point Park will be prose- cuted and required to replace the signs. The Park Commission reported taking in $100 for the pavilion use for the summer season, with $20 spent for the replacement of a holly tree which was torn out at the roots by vandals. The board announced that air packs are available to area farm workers who are filling silos or storage pits. They played against three other teams in the newly formed Red Rose League. One member of the original Braves team, James Smith, now serves as a coach for the organization. The only other teams in the league at that time were the Presidents, Conestoga Valley and Manheim Town- ship. Not only boys are involved in the program. Girls participate as cheerleaders. This season approximate- ly 100 boys and SO girls received trophies and silver dollars for their efforts. The *“C’ team was presented the Maxwell Wagner Memorial Trophy for having the ‘‘winningest - record.”’ That team, coached by John Zerphey, Don Neal, George Williams and Dan Tompkins had six wins and four losses this season. The Maxwell-Wagner tro- phy is presented in memory of Sam Maxwell and Roy Wagner, two men who were active i: the Braves pro- gram.
