Old baby doll
valued at $75
By Dan D’Imperio
Q. Is my childhood Baby Dainty doll now considered a
collectible?—Nan, Corning, N.Y.
A. Baby Dainty scored an instant hit with playroom
occupants upon her introduction in 1912. The EFFanBEE
Doll Co. of New York City kept this choice collectible in
production for the next 10 years. She had a composition
shoulder head, painted molded hair, and painted features.
Originally, the doll wore one of the firm's metal heart
shaped bracelets. Some specimens were marked simply
“EFFanBEE", others ’‘EFFanBEE, Baby Dainty". Presently,
the 15-inch tall Baby Dainty doll sells for a delightful $75.
Q. Would it be possible to assist me in appraising a small
collection of ink bottles?—Ralph, Waco, Tex.
A. A review of present day prices indicates that ink
bottles have left a permanent mark on collectors: Bixby,
C-590, $37; Carter's New Carmine Writing Fluid, 1906, $10;
Harrison's Columbian, etched, aqua, 1%-inch tall, $60; S.P.
Dunbar, OP, C-520, $140; Stafford’s Master, 6-inch tall,
$27: Underwood's Master, cobalt, 9%-inch tall, $35.
Q. What company produced the Horseshoe Depression
glass pattern?—Millie, Souderton, Pa.
A. The Indiana Glass Co. of Dunkirk, Ind., added this
mold etched pattern to production schedules between 1930
and 1933. Depression period consumers could purchase

Q. When was upholstered wicker furniture fashionable?
—~Mr. J. P., St. Louis, Mo. =
A. By the second decade of the 1900s, upholstered
wicker pieces were being advertised by the nation’s foremost
retail outlets. Sears, Roebuck and Co. offered a three-piece
set consisting of a settee, rocking chair and armchair for just
$26.50. And to think it was upholstered in a “floral figured
art pattern cretone in bright colors.” A decade later uphol-
stered wicker furniture was still flabbergasting flappers!
Value guide: rocker, floral upholstery, circa 1925, $165.
