Leona is a student at Lehigh University. Her parents own and operate the Big T Tastee Freez in Mount Joy and Jumbo Restaurant, Landisville. §§8 Army Private First Class R. Scott Hart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald S. Hart of Mount Joy recently partic- ipated in Reforger 80 and Crested Cap, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) training excercises. Private Hart is assigned at Fort Hood, Texas. §§§ Daryl Wenger, Mount Joy, is taking part in a new Voluntary Service unit spon- sored by Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions, Salunga, PA. The center, which opened October 27, is located at 235 Howard Ave., Lancaster. The unit will relate to the South Christian Street Mennonite Church and will interpret the VS experience to church and youth groups. Wenger served the past year in a VS assignment at another location. §8§ §§§ A new discipleship train- ing program call Youth Evangelism Service (YES) was launched by the Eastern Mennonite Board of Mis- sions, Salunga, PA, in September. A total of 20 young people (including many from the Donegal area) in three groups are currently attending Youth With a Mission training centers in Hawick, Scotland; Salem, Ore.; and Concord, N.H. After three months of Bible training they will spend an additional three months in service projects with Eastern Board mission- aries, one team going to Germany, another to Belize, and the third to Staten Island, N.Y. Serving with the YES team to Germany is Grace Garber, Mount Joy, a 1975 graduate of Hempfield High School. Grace, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Garber, Mount Joy, was employed as a secretary at Mennonite Brotherly Aid, Salunga. Five local participants will be serving in Belize, Central America. Dorcas Adorna, Mount Joy, a 1979 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, Va., was employed as a clerk at Park City. She is the daughter of Mrs. Blanca Adorno of Immokalee, Fla. Susie Shenk, Mount Joy, a 1974 graduate of Donegal High School and a 1977 graduate of York Academy of Arts, was employed as a commercial artist at Lan- caster Newspapers, Inc. She is the daughter of H. Rohrer and Doris J. Shenk, Mount Joy. Mary Yunginger, Mariet- ta, a 1977 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, was employed by Provident Bookstore, Lan- caster. She is the daughter of Richard and Jean Yung- inger, Marietta. Jeffrey Zimmerman of Mount Joy is a 1980 graduate of Pennsylvania State University. The son of Earl and JoAnn Zimmer- man, Mount Joy, Jeff was employed by the Penna. State University Field Re- search Lab, Landisville. Greg H. Zimmerman, also a son of Earl and JoAnn Zimmerman, Mount Joy, is a 1979 graduate of Donegal High School and completed one year at the Penn State University York campus. He was employed by Masonic Homes Landscaping Depart- ment, Elizabethtown. §§§ Meals on Wheels, Inc. to meet November 11 There will be a meeting for all persons desiring to volunteer their services for Meals-on-Wheels, Inc., on Tuesday, November 11, at 7:30 pm in the St. Mark's United Methodist Church Prayer Room, Mount Joy. This meeting is open to all persons, and an explanation of the areas needing volunteer substitution will be provided at that time. The Meals-on-Wheels program takes only a few hours each week to help those who are in need of the service. New look at Mount Joy Library The Mount Joy Library Center has a new look. The Pear] Martin Memorial Fund has enable the Library Board to redecorate the story hour room which accommodates 40 to SO children each Tuesday morning. The preschool children hear stories, learn finger plays and sing at the library each week. Penunia will appear at the library again this year to encourage youngsters to take advan- tage of the library facilities. Beahm Junior High to hold open house The W.1. Beahm Jr. High would like to invite all parents to attend their annual Parent-Teacher Open House scheduled for November 13th at 7 pm. School Board members will also be in attendance that evening and can be conferred with in the cafeteria of the school. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Luncheon and bazaar at 1st United Methodist’ The Women’s Society of the First United Methodist Church, East Market Street, Marietta, will sponsor a luncheon and soup sale and bazaar on Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8, in the church. Friday’s hours are 9 am to 7 pm, with soup available for take-home. The sale begins at 9 am Saturday. The Girl Scouts from the Donegal Neighborhood have also become involved in the library functions this year. Girl Scouts can be heard singing on Saturday morn- ings as they go about their volunteer work. A new Girl Scout corner has been added to the library. This gives the Scouts and their leaders a chance to become involved in the library and to find resources for their scouting adventures. The library’s annual fund drive is now underway, and library officials remind you that your help is needed. With the increasing de- mands of running a sound library center, it becomes difficult to operate without entire neighborhood sup- ort. The library urges every- one in the area to read, listen and to support the Mount Joy Library Center. Any contributions can be made at the library or at local banks and savings and loans. Mrta. Brownies take hay ride Brownie Troop #34, Marietta, held its Halloween party at 101 Fairview Avenue, Marietta, on Mon- day, October 27. Everyone came in costume except the fearless leader, Marion McKain. Ginger Chilcut won for having the most original costume, and Anna Hammil was named the prettiest. Games and singing pro- vided entertainment, and everyone received a candy apple. On Friday, October 31, the Brownie Troop and Junior Girl Scout Troop 1187 went for a hay ride at Circle Creek Farm.
