Little People’s Nursery School begins Sept. 8 The Little People’s Co-op Nursery School, located at the Florin Church of the Brethren, on Bruce Avenue, Mount Joy, is about to begin its eighth year of operation. Started in 1973 by a few mothers concerned about a pre-school program for their young children, it has grown each year, providing a continuing service to the community. The nursery school pro- vides two, three, and four year old children with activities that will help develop their physical, emo- tional, social and mental abilities. A class day runs from 9:30 am until 12 noon with the exception of the two year old play group which meets from 9:45 until 11:45 . on Mondays. During this time children take part in music, art, dramatic play, science, cooking, large muscle play, positive self- concept, cognitive skills and language arts. Field trips are also taken numerous times throughout the school year. A co-operative nursery school differs from other types of nursery schools or day care centers in that a parent participates in the school’s functioning by spending a few days helping in the classroom during the school year. The nursery school feels this is a . wonderful experience for parents to see the imagina- tions and capabilities of their own children as well as others of the same age group. The parents also serve on the board of directors. On Thursday, September 4, at 7:30 pm, there will be an orientation meeting for parents of registered child- ren. A public open house is being held from 12:30 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 6. Little People’s Nursery School has several openings for the coming school year. The school admits students of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin. For further information and registra- tion, please call Carol Fetch, registrar, at 684-6155.
