The couple will work in public health and agriculture de- velopment in Bolivia. They are members of the Mount Joy Mennonite Church. Marlene holds a bachel- or’s degree in nursing from Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, VA, and was recently employed as a staff nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Andrew is em- ployed with Larry Dombach Construction as a carpenter. Marlene is the daughter of Paul C. Hess and Susan A Schreiner of Mount Joy, and Andrew is the son of Andrew B. Sheetz, 371 North Barbara St., Mount Joy, was among 108 stu- dents receiving master’s degrees at Millersville State College summer commence- ment held Friday, August 22. Mary, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald R. Sheetz, 14-16 East Main Street, received her degree in counselor education. §§§ Spec. 4 Deanna N. Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean N. Grimm, Route 1, Marietta, recently com- pleted the Primary Leader- ship Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. The course develops lead- ership, supervisory and mangerial skills appropriate to shop or office environ- ments for soldiers selected by their commanders as having potential to become, or advance as, noncommis- sioned officers. Jones completed the course with highest honors. She is assigned to the U.S. Army Training Center, En- gineer and Fort Leonard Wood. §§§ Paul Ackerley, a 1974 graduate of Donegal High School, has been named the Outstanding First Sgt. for the 2nd Basic Cadet Train- ing program at the United States Air Force Academy. During basic training Paul served as First Sgt. for one of the squadrons that trained new entrants to the Air Force Academy, prepar- ing them for acceptance into the cadet wing. This summer Paul also com- pleted the Army’s Airborne scfiool at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Operation 3rd Leautenant at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where he received some back-seat flying in the F-15 and T-38 aircraft. Paul is presently a junior at the Academy and will be graduating in June of 1982. §§§ Birchland Antiques of Mount Joy will participate in the 14th annual Lititz Springs Park Outdoor An- tique and Collectibles Sale to be held this Saturday, August 30. The event will be held in the park from 9 am to S pm with 50 dealers from four states displaying for sale their many and varied antiques. The sale is sponsored by the Lititz Springs Park Trustees, and funds derived are used for the improvement of the public park. §§8 Bradley C. Brooks, RDI, Bainbridge, is one of 33 Elizabethtown College stu- dents to be designated a College Scholar at the school’s opening Convoca- tion Wednesday, September 3. To be designated a College Scholar each stu- dent has had to accumulate 60 semester credits of study at Elizabethtown and to have attained over that period an accumulative grade point average of 3.75 . or better. Bradley, a senior communication arts major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Brooks. §§§ Russell and Esther Sump- man, 128 Mount Joy St., Mount Joy, enjoyed a musical tribute in honor of their 59th wedding an- niversary. The couple, along with over 100 friends, relatives and acquaintances, listened to the New Holland Band in the Sumpman’s back yard. The tribute was organized by Sumpman’s son, Russel Jr., a 34-year member of the band. Many of the 48 band members became friends with the Sumpmans when the couple attended con- certs. Because of Russell's ill health they have not been able to attend the events in recent years. The couple, lifelong resi- dents of Mount Joy, has three children: Russell Jr., Columbia; Madeline, wife of Carl Peiffer, Elizabethtown; and Roy, Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
