Marlin McConnell, co-chairperson, gave a brief introduction to members of the Marietta business community attending, explaining what had been discussed at previous meetings. Rollin Morse from the Columbia Area Chamber of Commerce spoke of the need to revitalize Columbia and the surrounding area. The Columbia Chamber would like to build a broader base for economic growth. Following Mr. Morse’s presentation, the proposed bylaws were submitted by the Bylaw Committee. They were read and amended. The organization will now be called ‘“‘Marietta Area Business Association’’. At the next meeting of the Marietta Area Business Association bylaws will be amended and adopted and permanent officers will be elected. The Membership Committee plans to solicit prospective members and collect dues ($10) for the first quarter (April, May, June). The next meeting will be held Monday, April 7, 7:30 pm at the Railroad House, Front and Perry Sts. All interested Marietta area people are invited to attend. Twenty- five contestants demon- strated their spelling prow- ess in front of the junior high student body, faculty and administration. The field was cut to only three students by round eight. John Zimmerman met his nemesis when given the word ‘‘artificial.”’ That left only two students; Jerry Lapp and Gwen Martin, both representatives of Kraybill’s Mennonite School. Kraybill’s was cer- tain to have the 1980’s champion. Jerry misspelled the word ‘“‘bibliography’’ in the tenth round. The word posed no problem for Gwen when she tackled it, and she needed only to spell the next word correctly to become the district champion. It was no small task, the next word being ‘‘cajolery.”’ However, Gwen proved she was truly a MJ Churches meet & plan ‘Renewal 80° Members of the Mount Joy area churches met on Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22 to continue planning for Renewal ’80, on June 15-18, 1980. Augsburger, pres- ident and professor of theology at Eastern Men- nonite College and Semin- ary, Harrisonburg, VA. During the past 20 years, Dr. Augusburger has con- ducted preaching missions in major cities in the United States and Canada, as well as Jamaica, Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa, the Orient, and Central and South America. Augusburger has lectured on numerous college and university campuses as a Staley Distinguished Schol- ar in The Staley Foundation Lecture Program. He is the author of twelve books. Musicians for the area- wide meeting will be Ken and Betty Masterman from Allentown, PA. The Mas- termans have been associ- ated with Dr. Augusbur- ger’s ministry for nearly 20 years.
