Mount Joy boro council
receives alley petition
At the meeting of the
Mount Joy Borough Council
this past Monday night
residents of Donegal
Springs Road submitted
petitions asking to annex
dead-end unused alleys to
their properties.
Council authorized pre-
advertisement of a new
ordinance regarding dan-
gerous structures which the
borough can ask owners to
repair.
Approval was given to the
police department to buy a
new typewriter.
Appletree Alley will be
made one-way from Barbara
Street west to Market Street
for a 90-day trial period.
Pre-advertisement was
authorized for an ordinance
converting a tract of land
along Lefever Road from
high density residential to
medium density residential.
Approval was given to
pre-advertising an ordi-
nance requiring a fee and
two-year guarantee of the
work, whenever a street
surface is opened to repair
utility lines.
Approval was given for
subdivisions of their proper-
ties requested by Warren H.
and Ethel Foley, 12 West
Donegal Street; Jay R. and
Victoria M. Hess, 457
Donegal Springs Road; and
William E. Yeaglin, 1000
block of Wood Street.
The resignation of John
W. Harnish, member of
council, was accepted. Har-
nish is moving with his
family to Centerville.
The contract for resurfac-
ing sections of Plum, High,
Detwiler, Park, and Second
Streets was awarded to low
bidder B. R. Kreider and
Sons, Manheim. Their bid
was $19,455.
Approval was also given
for Penn DOT to award the
contract for reconstruction
of Lefever Road to George
R. Lynn Co., Port Carbon,
Pa., for $136,268. The
approval was contingent,
however, on Penn DOT’s
agreeing to pay 75 per cent
of the costs.
Authorization was given
to accept bids for the
reconstruction of Plum
Street from Hill Street to
Terrace Avenue.
An invitation for bids for a
new automobile for the
police department was is-
sued for the second time.
A motion to subdivide the
land surrounding the house
owned by the borough in the
Borough Park was voted
down, also a motion to
consider tearing down the
house.
It was announced that a
48-unit housing project for
the elderly on East Main
Street will be presented at
the next meeting of the
zoning hearing board at 7:30
p.m., Friday, March 21.
