December 19, 1979 Miss Grace Miller entertains Marietta Senior League Miss Grace Miller addres- sed the Marietta Senior League in Pennsylvania Dutch at that club's annual Christmas banquet, held at Lacy’s Lounge. Besides Miss Miller's monologue, a parody was presented by Miss Elsie McCloskey, entitled, ‘‘The Salesgirls’ Visit From St. Nicholaus.’’ Ben Weaver served as master of ceremonies and Howard Shaub offered the invocation. Each of the approximately 65 people who attended the meeting brought a donation gift. The gifts will be distributed to shut-ins this Thursday. On Friday, people in hospitals and homes will be given flowers. The door prize was won by Mrs. Dorothy Yarnell—a poinsettia. The Happy Birthday Song was sung for five members who had birthdays in December: Mrs. E.B. Grove, Mrs. Winnifred Buell, Mr. Robert Bergaus, Howard Shaub. The Christmas decora- tions were put up under the direction of Mrs. Paul Portner, Miss Elsie McClos- key, Mrs. Charles Margratf and Mr. Howard Shaub. The officers gave Mrs. Portner, the club’s presi- dent, a monetary gift. She in turn gave each officer a remembrance. Christmas poinsettia. The January meeting of the Marietta Senior League will be held on Monday, the 7th, at 1:30pm, in the Community House. Mary Portner presents entertainer Grace Miller with a Mount Joy Leisure Club holds Christmas party at Hostetter’s The Mount Joy Area Leisure Club held their Christmas party recently at Hostetters with 163 present. Following the invocation by Jay Sherk a very delicious dinner was served. Follow- ing the dinner, president Joe Shaeffer introduced the program for the evening. Mrs. Lau and the Rhythem Singers, from Donegal High School, presented a very delightful and enjoyable program. It was so much enjoyed by all present, that at the close of the program, they were given a standing ovation. Following the program, all joined in singing Christ- mas carols with Mildred Way at the piano. The Christmas story was read from the Bible by Grace Shaeffer. There was no formal business meeting. The only announcement by President Shaeffer concerned the bus trip to Bethlehem. The nominating com- mitte, consisting of Chair- man Joy Sherk, Dorothy Sherk, Warren Bentzeél and Ralph Berrier, gave a report of nominations. Nominated for president, Joe Shaeffer; First Vice President, James Schneider; Second Vice President, Eva Groff; Sec- retary, Teressa Heisey; Asst. Secretary, Ruth Brandt; Treasurer, Almeda Hostetter; Asst. Treasurer, John Brown; Recording Secretary, Romaine Good; and Asst. Recording Secre- tary, Irvin LeVin. There being no other nominations, the above officers were elected to serve next year. Hostesses for the January meeting are Ethel Brandt, Mrs. Ray Burris, Mrs. Dorothy Chapin, Esther Diffendeifer, Mrs. Nora Eby, Lena Engle, Mrs. Earl Eshleman, Mrs. Maude Frey, Alice Bryan and Jenniw Brandt. Prizes for the evening consisted of 24 fruit baskets and two poinsettia plants which were used for table decorations, and arranged by Bertha Foreman and her committee. A very delightful and entertaining evening came to a close with President Shaeffer thanking the offic- ers and committees for their fine cooperation and help. One new member, Mrs. Warren Heisey, was pre- sented. The next meeting will be January 14 and will begin at 1:00 pm. A meeting of the officers and committees is being planned for the beginning of January to plan for the year. Joe Shaeffer Mount Joy Joycee-ettes prepare to select outstanding woman of the year The Mount Joy Joycee- ettes will present their sixth annual ‘‘Outstanding Wo- man of the Year Award’’ on Saturday, January 26, 1980. The presentation will be made in conjunction with the Jaycees Dinstinguished Service Award Banquet to be held at Hostetter's Dining Hall. Each year all organiza- tions in the community are invited to participate in the selection of our award winner by submitting nom- inations. A panel of five judges, consisting of Joy- cee-ettes and citizens of Mount Joy, review the list of nominees and choose the recipient of the award. The nominee must be a woman who is eighteen years of age or older, is a resident of Mount Joy or has a Mount Joy mailing address, and has recently volunteered her talents, ideas and labor in contribut- ing to the betterment of the community.
