Pastor St. Luke’s Lutheran MASSES to local zoning meeting [continued from front page] was three hours later than he had expected in getting home. He never made it to the zoning meeting. The Lavins were married during his four years of active duty. During a cruise of the Mediterranean, Claire and their daughter Theresa travelled from port to port around the Mediterranean, and would meet Lavin’s ship when it came. In this way, Claire got to see a great deal of the Mediterranean coun- tries. She liked Greece best of all, but Lavin preferred Spain, partly because he speaks Spanish. In the course of his Naval career he has, by remote control, piloted other planes thirty miles away, from his own plane. He tracked the position of the distant plane he was piloting from blips on a radar screen. Commander Lavin was well trained for operating sophisticated electronic e- quipment; he holds a B.S. in electornic engineering from Penn State and an M.S. in business administration from Penn State Capitol Campus. Among his naval col- leagues he has earned the name ‘‘Magellan’’ for his ‘navigational skills. Because ‘of his crafts business, which includes the sale and use of yarns and cords for macrame, he is also called ‘“The Maharajah of Macra- me.”’ A memento of his survey of the largest oil slick in history, is a small jar of water from the Gulf and several dark brown blobs of gook containing sand and salt as well as very crude oil. He cannot explain the recent lack of further news about the slick. He thinks that recent negotiations between the U.S. and Mexico, to get newly discovered oil and gas from Mexico, might explain the lack of bad publicity about Mexican oil. He doesn’t know.
