School really begins for these School opened this week for hundreds of children in the Donegal District. It really began, however, for those children who entered kindergarten this week. In order to get their feelings about this import- ant step in their careers, starting their educations, The Susquehanna Times called a sample of the new students and interviewed them. Elizab Starting kindergarten next week is Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell, 662 Wood St., Mount Joy. Elizabeth met us at the front door of her house wearing a very pretty red dress which had been made for her by her grandmother, Mrs. Helen Hindman of Elizabethtown. Elizabeth's mother explained that Mrs. Hindman ‘‘keeps us all in stitches. Elizabeth confessed to us that she is ‘““Excited’’ about going to kindergarten this week. She is especially excited about learning how to read, but added, ‘‘Well, 1 guess I'm kind of excited with the whole thing.” With two older sisters already at Seiler School, which she will be attending, Elizabeth is well prepared for starting school. He: sisters Melissa and Am, often play school with her. Besides, Elizabeth alread- y knows her teacher, Mrs. Baley, because Mrs. Baley is Melissa's piano teacher. Elizabeth was wearing a pretty red dress which was made for her by her grandmother, Mrs. Helen Hindman of Elizabethtown. Elizabeth’s mother said that her mother, Mrs. Hindman, ‘“‘keeps us all in stitches.” Elizabeth also got a new pair of shoes to start schools. et Eric Marvel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Marvel, Jr., 520 Creekside Lane, Mount Joy. Eric has two older brothers who have been telling Eric all about school. Paul Marvel, III, who starts Donegal H.S. this week informed Eric that his ““parole is over now’’ and he will be ‘‘going back to prison.”’ From Brian, 10, Eric learned that the ladies in the h Campbell cafeteria at Seiler School will give him money. Unfortunately, according to his mother, Eric won’t be eating in the cafeteria. Eric’s mother also said that Eric doesn’t know quite what to expect, with all he has been hearing from his older brothers. When asked how he expected to like school, however, Eric said, ‘‘Fine.”’ Asked he will learn, he replied, ‘‘My ABC's.” He also expects to do a lot of cutting, pasting, and coloring. Bernadette Moilanen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Moilanen, 140 West Walnut Street, Marietta, will be attending Riverside. Since she attended nurs- ery school at Zion Lutheran, Marietta, ‘‘up there,” school will not be a totally new experience for her. She expects to like “coloring’’ best. She has met her teacher, Miss Sheetz. Asked if she liked Miss Sheetz, Bernadette nodded. Asked if she had ever had her picture in the newspaper before she said, ‘Yes, when I was in nursery school.” Asked what she would learn she said, ‘‘Play.”’ She attended kindergart- en before with her sister Rebecca, 6. What she enjoyed most were the monkey bars. She has also played school often with Rebecca. Gary Allum is the sonMr. and Mrs. Francis L. Allum, 410 West Market St. Marietta. Gary was being visited by Mike Ebersole, son of Mr. and Mrs.Harold Ebersole, 356 East Market St., Marietta. Both Gary and Mike are starting kinder- garten this week. Gary said he expects to‘ ‘Play, learn and stuff’’ at kindergarten. Mike said, ‘play and work.”’ When asked what kind of “stuff” he was going to learn, Gary explained, “Stuff.” Eric Marvel September 5, 1979 Kindergart Would he learn to read? Gary nodded. Gary plays school with his older brother Gregory and sister Leonora. Leonora is usually the teacher. What does she teach? Gary: ‘“Homework."”’ What will he like best? “‘Play.”” Also, blocks, espec- ially ‘‘brick blocks made out of shoe boxes.’’ Mike, who had said he expects to ‘‘play and work’’ at school, was asked what kind of work he would be doing. ‘‘Paint,”’ he said. What else? “Home- work.”’ Bernadette Moilanen S a ml gig tS NY ZZ
