S g e d of 1 GO AN nv .« t t rn vv August 22, 1979 School board postpones decisions on limiting student driving to school, away trips for band Donegal School Board meeting last Thursday night decided to postpone final decisions on recommendat- ions from L.U. 13 on saving gasoline. The recommendations: 1.) limit student driving to school. 2.) allow only two band trips to and away from football games this fall; and 3.) cancel any non-league games not finished on account of bad weather. The board decided there were too many important unknowns at this time to make sensible decisions. For example, if other schools are planning differ- ent schedules for their bands, conflicts might arise as to which bands are playing where, when. SENIOR CITIZEN CARDS HONORED One resignation, five new teachers in Donegal schools Mrs. Constance (Ligenza) Giordano has resigned as junior high English teacher, to go to Bible School in Dallas, Texas. She complet- ed four years in the Donegal Schools. Miss Susan D. Reider, from Middletown, has been appointed to teach high school English. Miss Reider is a graduate of Millersville State College and served as a substitute teacher at Conestoga Valley. Mrs. Lesley Jo Schoch, R.D.3, Elizabethtown will teach half-time in the kindergarten in Maytown. She is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College. Miss Susan Ursprung, R.D.2, Willow Street, has been appointed to the junior high English position vacat- ed by Mrs. Giordano. She is a graduate of Bloomsburg and was a full-time substitute in English at Phoenixville H.S. Mrs. Robin D. Wenger, R.D.2, Manheim,has been appointed as a full-time substitute in math at the high school, for Mrs. Keesey, away on maternity leave. Mrs. Wenger has served as a substitute for Mr. Prownell in the junior high this past spring. Coaching assistants, trainers appointed The following coaching assignments were approved by the board last Thursday night: Football: Mr. Felix, assistant; Mr. Knorr, train- er; Hockey: Miss Geno, assistant; Miss Jill Shupp, aide; Wrestling: Mr. Konas, Mr. Asplin, and Mr. Felix, assistants; Basketball: Mr. Strausbaugh, assistant. Donegal’s green track to go metric Donegal High School’s green track, the source of bitter controversy several years ago, will be converted to metric. The track will no longer be 440 yards around, but 400 meters. This will involve shortening the track only slightly; 400 meters is 437.4 yards, only 2.6 yards shorter than previously. The contract for the track, which includes patching it and covering it with a green sealer, was awarded to low bidder, Zemco Corp. of Baltimore, which came in at $13,000.
