Strong, Associate Executive of the Synod of the Trinity, will be in the pulpit of Donegal Presbyterian Church at the 9:00 AM worship service on Sunday, August 26th. Donegal Presbytery, which was organized at Donegal Church in 1732, is part of the Synod of the Trinity, which includes Pennsylvania and parts of West Virginia and Ohio. Dr. Strong is responsible for assisting the Synod Execu- tive in the inplementation. of ' Butterflies are beautiful but also tough fighters To us giants, the delicate butterfly looks—and is— harmless. But its appear- ance is deceptive: actually, the butterfly is a tough, combative insect. Butterflies are ‘‘astonish- ly aggressive,’’ according to National Wildlife magazine. An angry butterfly may chase an intruder for up to S00 yards. Butterflies are territorial, and will attack anything that invades their turf, be it insect, cat, human or frisbee. Fortunately, they can’t bite. Butterflies often have terrific brawls, three or four of them using the brute force of impact to knock off each others’ antennae and wings. Like rebel troops, butter- flies yell as they fight. Their battle cries are made by snapping body segments together and waving their goals and mission direction of the Synod, and for pro- viding resource staff ser- vices for various commit- tees. He was previously Exec- utive Presbyter of Shenango Presbytery, and has served as educational consultant for the Synods of the Trinity, Indiana, Arizona and Illinois. He held pastorates in Kansas and Nebraska. A native of Montana, he holds degrees from Seattle Pacific College in Washington, Presbyterian Seminary in Omaha, Neb., and Arizona State University in Tempe. He was awarded the D.D. val wings in a peculiar beat. The clicks are audible up to 100 feet away. Butterflies are thought to have the broadest ‘‘visible spectrum’’ of any creature, being able to see both infra- red and ultraviolet. Their taste sensitivity is 2400 times better than ours, according to scientists. National Wildlife has some suggestions for people who like butterflies. Here they are: 1.Let the edges of your lawn grow wild for a habitat. 2. Leave some thistles and nettles growing. Butterflies feed on them. In general, many weeds are butterfly food. 3. Avoid using chemical insecticides. 4. Grow small, flowers. There are 20,000 species of butterflies in the world, and about 700 in the U.S. bright Dr. Ralph A. Strong to preach at Donegal Presbyterian Sunday degree in 1970 by Hanover College. He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi, honorary socie- ties in education. Dr. Strong is a member of the board of directors of the Instrument for the Qbserva- tion of Teaching Activities in the Church (INSTRO- TEACH). His office is in Camp Hill. The Strongs are parents of two grown sons. Dr. Strong is at Donegal in the absence of the pastor, Dr. Victor Baer, who is on vacation. Ruling Elder Dorcas Moyer will assist in the service. . 3» » 4
