Shellenberger
honored for 50 years’ service
Rev. Robert T. Shellen-
berger, a native of Mariet-
ta, was recently honored
for SO years of dedication
to the Episcopal Church.
Now a resident of Kings-
ton, N.Y., Rev. Shellen-
berger, observed his S0
years as a priest with a
jubilee mass. Although
retired for 6 years, he has
remained active in the
church and was made
Rector Emeritus.
When a choir boy at St.
John’s Episcopal Church,
Marietta, the honored
‘““Padre’’ never dreamed of
being a priest. He dreamed
about the law and just
about every other career,
except the priesthood.
After graduating from
Marietta High School he
worked for the Post Office,
where he found people
searching—groping for
something they weren’t
getting from life—it was
then he noticed something
about people that would
change their lives: religion.
He studied religious
education at” Teachers Col-
lege, Columbia University,
and later was graduated
from the General Theologi-
is slowly darkened. - The
Chancel Choir will also sing
‘“Christ, We Do All Adore
Thee’ by Dubois.
Easter morning worship
at Glossbrenner U.M.
Church will be held at 9:30
AM. There will be special
anthems from a brass
ensemble. Easter flowers
will be placed throughout
the sanctuary.
An egg hunt for the
children of the Church
School will be sponsored by
the Youth Fellowship dur-
ing the Church School hour
at 10:30 AM.
A communion service
will be held in the chapel
at 8:45 AM.
cal Seminary of the
Episcopal Church.
On June 8, 1928, the 28
year-old Shellenberger was
ordained a .deacon by
Bishop Darlington, Diocese
of Harrisburg. Six months
later, December 19, he was
ordained a priest by the
Bishop.
A highlight during his
years as priest came last
year when he and his wife,
Louise, spent two weeks in
Washington, D.C., as in-
terns with the Congression-
al Senior Citizen Intern
Program.
