TMT contains Teflon, the slippery black stuff on non-stick frying pans. She has won the Arts and Letters Award for Interpre- tation of Debussy and a 1st place in international voice : , competition in Paris. lege production of Macbeth §8§ Bertha Riley (Mrs. Harry) of Marietta, will be celebrating her birthday on March 2S. §§§ Marietta Borough Council studies future snow removal, accepts low-interest loan from Farmers First for new pumper Marietta Council paid bills of $1642 for last month’s snow removal at its meeting last week. Council appointed a com- mittee (Harold Kulman, Dave White, John Reuter, and mayor Flanagan) to study future snow re- movals. Council advises residents that home winterizing and maintenance loans are available from the county Redevelopment Authority. Also, to reach the local police in an emergency, residents should call 653-1357. An amendment to ordin- ance 79-2 was adopted. It provides for a reduction in sewer rates for properties vacant due to fire, storm, or other disaster. Council accepted a bid from Farmers First Bank for a loan of $44,000 for a new pumper for the fire company. The interest rate will be 5%. A contract for $624 was given to Arkin, Inc., for termite extermination in the Union Meeting House. $500 was allocated to re- Four new members join Maytown Fire Co. On March 12, Maytown Fire Company held our monthly meeting at which the following took place: Fire Chief Shaffner re- ported 10 calls with SS men responding for a total of 130 man hours. The township Supervi- sors gave the Fire Com- pany a check in the amount of $1,000, which we appreciate very much. Dates have been set for our 1st carnival. Those dates are May 26 and 28. Four new members were accepted by the Fire Company. Those whose applications were accepted are as follows: Robert Atkins Ellis H. Mark gave awards to these boys: Craig Bricker, bear and gold arrow; John Ginder and Eric Mengel, denner; Les- ter Dimeler, Jr., aquanaut; Scott Newcomer, silver arrow; Chris Jenkins, wolf; The Pinewood Derby winners were: John Hall- gren, Ist; Kirk Landis, 2nd; Jeffrey Suter, 3rd. Eric Mengel won the best of show car award. Best of show runners-up were Jeffrey Suter and Lester Dimeler, Jr. Loretta Dimel- er won the adult prize. SUSQUEHANNA TIMES—Page 3 Restoration Associates gear up for county’s 250th birthday The 2nd annual Attic and Seller Day, sponsored by the Restoration Associatés, will be held on May 19th in Maretta, in conjunction with the 250th birthday celebration of Lancaster County. A ‘“‘Run Through His- tory’’ -will start at River- view Elementary School at 10 AM on that day; Senator Richard Snyder wiil dedi- cate a bronze plaque in the Community House at 2 PM (in recognition of the Historic District); Judge Wilson Bucher and Mrs. Elaine Holden, president of the Lancaster Preservation Trust, will speak at the ceremony. : Marietta residents are invited to arrange their own porch/garage sales for May 19th. Various organi- zations will have food stands set up, and the United Presbyterian Church is arranging an antique show. They ask people to loan them interesting pieces for this show. Restorationists meet The Restoration Associ- ates heard a talk by Thomas Lainhoff, sites chairman of the Lancaster Preservation Trust, at their March meeting. He ex- plained the procedure for documenting old buildings’ deeds, previous owners, etc. Anyone wishing to document an old property (this could be helpful to floodplain residents in light of HUD’s new regulations) can get help from the Lancaster County Recorder of Deeds and Mrs. William Landis, documentation chairwoman of the Restora- tion Associates. Mrs. Landis can assist in filling out the forms. The business session, of the meeting was conducted by president Ken Ross. Dave White announced that $24,000 has been allocated by the county Redevelop- ment Authority for repair- ing the balconey and floors of the Union Meeting House. The money will be available in the spring of 1980. Mrs. Landis submitted a progress report on the preparation of a brochure listing historic structures in Marietta.
