Greg Zimmerman Greg Zimmerman wins science honor three for $7,500, four for Donegal High School student Greg Zimmerman is one of 300 American high school students named to the Honors Group of the 38th annual Westinghouse Science Talent Search. As such, he has a chance to win up to $12,000 in scholarship money. Greg, the son of Earl B. and JoAnn Zimmerman of RD2 Mount Joy, submitted his Science Fair project of last year, in a revised format, to the Talent Search people. The project won third prize in chemis- try in the county Science Fair. There were 980 entries submitted, from which the 300 honors winners were selected. 40 of the honors students will get scholar- ship money: a $12,000 first prize, two for $10,000, $5,000, and 30 $500 scholarships. Greg's project was a test for lead in solutions, which could find application in environmental research or other areas. He did not invent the basic technique, but adapted existing methods to lead detection. The Science Talent Search was begun in 1942. Since then two contest winners have gone on to win Nobel prizes. In a survey, all but three of the 300 honors winners said that they plan to work as research scientists. Greg borrowed some of Donegal High’s equipment for doing his project, but other parts he had to make. A tube of special epoxy glue that went into his project cost $25. Poems Crester wittell observes the current scene ‘Quiantness’ Although we ain’t, the ‘‘ain’tness”’ Is what folks call our ‘‘quaintness.”’ Whatever that is, the ‘‘isness’’ Is surely good for business. Income tax There's no such thing as income tax, As surely you must know. No matter how or what they're called, All taxes are out-go.
