LUTZ - WELDING 645 Donegal Springs Rd. 653-5095 Welding PP&L takes blame for river fish kill Pennsylvania Power & Light Company has ac- knowledged responsibility for fish kill on the Lower Susquehanna River recent- ly. As a result, the Com- pany will pay the Pennsyl- vania Fish Commission $1,500 and probably a like sum to the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Fund. Lynn 1. Ratzell of PP&L’s Environmental Engineering organization attributed the fish kill to ‘‘thermal shock.”’ Brunner Island Steam Electric Station’s Unit 3 was shut down for routine maintenance Friday night by PP&L. An esti- mated 4,500 fish, including 2,800 minnows and suck- ers, were killed when cold water mixed suddenly with the warm discharge chan- nel water near the plant. Ratzell pointed out, “We are examining what hap- pened this time so we can develop procedures which will reduce the chance of any such fish kills in whe future. Our findings and plans will be reported to the Pennsylvania Depart- ment of Environmental Resources.’’ United Way plans a big party All 1976 contributing members of the United Way are invited to a $6.75 plate dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m., January 31, in the Diamond Horseshoe Ballroom of the Host Cor- ral.
