Fourth Street Columbia, PA ERR December 15, Rescue workers scale a sheer cliff in a quarry near Bainbridge to reach an injured “*victim”’ of the mock plane crash. ...mock airplane crash (cont’d) The location, a quarry outside of Bainbridge, was relayed to the C.A.P. ground crew at E-town Airport. The Lancaster County Net was then noti- fied of the aircraft mishap and an immediate alarm was sounded to the Bain- bridge fire and ambulance Crews. When the Bainbridge crews arrived at the scene, they discovered that in- jured passengers’ were scattered through the woods, and several fires were blazing. They radioed for assistance. The follow- ing units responded quickly Maytown fire and ambu- lance, Marietta fire and ambulance, Florin fire and rescue, the E-Town Forest Fire Crew, SERCOM, E-Town and West Donegal Civil Defense. Conoy Township Chief of Police, Thomas Kesselring was coordinator for the Fire-Police crew. Trooper Fisher represented the State Police Fire Marshal’s office. “*Victims'’ were Dave Lamb, Don Lamb, Doug Lamb, Tom Wohlfiel and Rick Downs. Fireman Marty Cusick played an injured fireman so convinc- ingly that everyone thought a real emergency had occured (see photos). The Civil Air Patrol, which observed its 3Sth birthday on December 1st, is a non-profit organization and an Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Its three basic functions are: Aerospace Education, Search and Rescue, and Emergency Services. Membership in C.A.P. is open to all boys and girls over the age of 14 for the Cadet Program, and men A fireman strains at a rope while a over a steep cliff. and women over the age of 18 for the Senior Program. On initial membership, each Cadet is given an orientation flight and brief- ing on flight procedures.
