Endslow, Marietta, received a Penn- sylvania Power & Light Co. Energy Efficient Home Builder Award on Dec. 1 for including numerous energy-saving features in homes built in Country Village, Maytown. The award is part of PP&L’s ‘‘Energy Efficient Home’’ program, which encourages builders to place increased emphasis on energy conservation in residential construction. It was presented to Endslow by Robert L. Fish, Jr., residential consultant in PP&L’s lancaster Division. The Energy Efficient Home program incorpor- ates PP&L’s standards for insulation and heating and cooling systems, and the award recognizes builders who complete five qualify- ing homes within a year. The minimum insulation requirements included in the program are those which PP&L asked the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in April to allow it to make mandatory in all new residential structures before electrical hookup. If all the requirements are met, the program provides a certificate with which the builder can verify to a new homeowner that the house being purchased qualifies as a PP&L Energy Efficient Home. ‘‘By stressing conser- vation in their construction, builders such as Mr. Endslow will save consum- ers money in the long rum,’’ said Fish. ‘‘Conser- vation is the key, and their efforts will help PP&L in its commitment to reduce the growth in consumption of electricity.’’ The Endslow develop- ment in Maytown will eventually comprise 30 townhouses and four units of two semi-detached homes each.
