West Chester won their victory on November 21 through 24 at Ellenburg, Wasington state. Maytown Fire Co. meets New coats are donated The November meeting of the Maytown Fire Co. was recently held at the Maytown Fire Hall. Fire Chief Charles Johns report- ed 1 emergency call, a corn picker fire on the Thomas Rich farm. Chief Johns also reported the addition of 12 new fire coats for the company. The cost of the new coats was donated by the Ladies Auxilary to the Fire Company. Apprecia- tion was extended to the Maytown Ladies Auxilary for this much needed fire fighting equipment. Nominations for officers for 1979 were presented. Election will be Monday, Dec. 11th at 7:30 PM at the Maytown Fire Hall. Any member unable to be present can contact Presi-’ dent Jack Doutrich (426- 1655) or Sec. C. Shaffner (426-2714) for an absentee ballot. Obituaries DR. GEORGE GOSHEA Dr. George W. Goshea, 73, formerly of 131 N. Gay Street, Marietta, died last week in Lebanon Veterans Hospital after a long illness. He was the hus- band of Estella L. Hudson Macklin Goshea. He was baptized a Catholic. He served in the armed forces during World War Two. Born in Savannah, Ga., he was a son of the late James R. and Della Turman Goshea. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Georgia Ann Goshea, at home; a step daughter, Marie Ann Macklin, Baltimore, Md.; and a step son, Theodore Macklin, Jr., of Washing- ton. He is also survived by four brothers and sisters: Betty Arnell, Baltimore; Frances Holiday, Fernan- dina, Fl.; Della Grant, and Richard Jackson, both of Savannah, Ga. J. BENDER LONGENECKER Word has been received of the death of J. Bender Longenecker, formerly of Mount Joy. He died at age 79 in St. Louis, Mo., on November 7th. Longenecker moved to Illinois in 1930, and worked as a chemist in the devel- opment of the caramel coloring that is now used in Coca-Cola. He was born in Rapho Township, a son of the late Christian G. and Lavina Bender Longenecker. Surviving, besides his wife, are: a daughter Maxine, wife of Gerard Tonies, Caseyville, Mo.; a brother Elam, Manheim; a sister, Rosa Lesher, Sher- rill, N.Y.; five grandchil- dren, and nieces and nephews. DR. JAMES RAMSEY Word has reached us that Dr. James Ramsey died on October 23rd (?) in Scotsdale, Arizona. A former resident of Marietta, he was the hus- band of the former Harriet Miller, of Marietta, who survives.
