Our young musicians have scooped up no less than three trophies and a plaque for their excellence so far this year, and the kids are excited about their proposed trip to Mexico in April. The DHS band has been invited to perform at the Invitational Band Festival in Mexico City. If the plans work out, they will be playing at soccer games and at various other places around the capital of our neighbor to the south. To finance the adventure the band has begun selling tickets to a chance at drawing a prize at the lottery to be held Decem- ber 2nd in the DHS gym. More than $1800 dollars worth of merchandise, donated by local mer- chants, will be raffled. There are over 150 items to be won by lucky ticket buyers. You can buy a ticket for only $1 from any band member. If enough money is brought in tc the band coffers, 100 band members, 20 band front members, and 20 chaperons will get to go to Mexico. Students are also raising money by selling hoagies, collecting scrap paper on the 3rd Saturday of each month, and selling choco- late bars. This year the band has won the following trophies: one from the Elizabethtown Community Fair Parade for being the Outstanding Band; one for participating in the 1st Invitational Bandfest of Chocolatetown; one from the Quarryville Community Fair Parade; and a plaque from J.P. McCaskey High School. To those people who help sponsor the trip by buying tickets, donating scrap, and eating hoagies, the DHS Band says, ‘‘Muchas Gracias!”’ Gospel theater The Covenant Players, a repertory theater from Los Angeles, will appear at Lancaster Bible College, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, on Friday, November 17, at 8:00. The public is invited to attend this program, free of charge, on the LBC campus.
