Mariettians star in
The Lion Who Wouldn't
On Friday, November 3,
at 7:30 PM and Saturday,
November 4, at 1:30 PM
and 7:30 PM, the Columbia
Little Theatre will unveil its
first children’s production,
THE LION WHO WOULD-
N’T. As this enchanting
musical by Gifford W.
Wingate with music by
Allan Jay Friedman un-
folds, it becomes quite
clear that this Lion is no
ordinary circus lion. He
reads too much, eats too
much, and has too lively an
imagination for his own
good. This Lion wants to
be everything other lions
aren’t - a baseball pitcher,
a teacher, a sea captain, a
detective, and an actor.
The children who come to
see the circus help the Lion
to see that he really isn’t
suited for any of those
occupations. The Lion's
trainer, whom he refers to
as- his ‘‘attendant,”” pa-
tiently awaits the Lion to
realize that being the star
of the Big Top isn’t so bad
after all.
The role of the Lion has
been taken by Louise
White, who was recently

cast as Ruthie in the Little
Theatre’s production of The
SECRET LIFE OF WAL-
TER MITTY. Joe Lively,
who portrays the Lion's
long-suffering Attendant,
took the title role in that
same summer production.
The lead boy's role of Mark
will be played by David
Dietrich. Colleen Barr will
portray Marilyn, Mark’s
counterpart. The other
children who round out the
Lion’s friends are Mary
Loreto as Bess, Scott
Demmy as Bill, Christine
'Haug as Jane, Scott Mack-
ison as John, lisa Powell as
Sue, and William Weaver
as Sam.
Mary Jane Demmy is
directing this charming
play for children. Jay
Graver and Steve Weibley
are directing the music for
the show. The production
will be presented at the
Columbia High School
Auditorium. Tickets may
be purchased at the door or
from cast members. The
prices are $2.00 for adults
and $1.25 for children
under 12.
