DID YOU HEAR? Mike Greiner, Mark A- dams, Mark Underkoffler, and Rodney Arndt of Mount Joy took a six-hour trip on a raft, over rapids, down the Youghiegheny River south of Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago. End of trip was a town named Ohiopyle. DID YOU HEAR? Eddie Albert, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Albert, S36 Essex Street, Mount Joy, has started practice for the Donegal “B”’ football team. DID YOU HEAR? Steven Geib, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kenneth Geib, R.D. 1, Mount Joy, left last week to attend a two-week Youth Conference of the Church of the Brethren in Estes Park, Colorado. DID YOU HEAR? Mr. and Mrs. Melvin O. Nolt recently moved into their new home at 620 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy. The Nolts had previously resided on a farm near Rheems. DID YOU HEAR? Stevan Phillips, son of Mr. amd Mrs. James A. Phillips, 265 Marietta Ave- nue, Mount Joy,came back to Mount Joy recently for a reunion of the Phillips family. Phillipses were there from Ohio, Michigan, and other distant places. Stevan, himself, an ex- ecutive with a publishing house in San Francisco, came in all the way from California. He stayed ten days, the first time his parents had seen him in two years. The Jaycees are looking for a few good men The East Donegal Jay- cees are trying to re- organize. As of last week, they were only 4 young men short of the 20 needed to rejuvenate the chapter and get its charter back from the national Jaycees organization. The charter was repealed a year ago because membership drop- ed below the 20-man cutoff point. ““There’s been a good deal of new building, and people moving in,” said Mount Joy Jaycee Bob Stoner, who is helping the East Donegal chapter get back on its feet. ‘‘That means the area should be ready to re-organize.”’ Stoner, interviewed at the meeting held last week in Maytown, went on, “there are lots of benefits for young men who join the Jaycees. They help them- selves while they help their community.” An example of this is the leadership courses which the Jaycees offer their members on a regular basis. ‘‘They’re miniature Dale Carnegie courses,” Stoner says, ‘‘the only real difference is price.”’ One fellow who took the Dale Carnegie course—to the tune of $600 or $700—Iater. joined the Jaycees and was flabbergasted to learn that the Jaycees had the same thing, for annual dues of $15.00. Fifteen bucks isn’t very much. What else is involv- ed in being a Jaycee? Jaycees meet once a month on a regular basis. They work together for the community they live in and on their own personal growth. Besides community in- volvement and personal growth, the Jaycees are also a good way to meet new friends. The Jaycees were origin- ally formed as the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and many people still think you have to be a business- man to join. The Jaycees, though, are the Jaycees, no longer (since 1965S) the *“J.C.’s”’ To join, you must be a man between the ages of 18 and 3S: there is no other restriction whatso- ever. Jaycees vary in their involvement: some put in many hours on group projects, others few hours. The Jaycees are a world -wide organization. Besides the leadership courses, major areas of Jaycee activity are com- munity health, education for responsible drinking, family life development, helping ex-convicts to re- adjust, and environmental action. Fortunate- ly, it didn’t rain. And the whole thing was one big happy surprise for Mr. Morris. DID YOU HEAR? Jean and Larry Fackler will celebrate their anniver- sary on August 25th. DID YOU HEAR? A man knocked on the door of Bob Houseal's house in Maytown recently and asked how much Bob wanted for his house. Bob said, ‘‘For my house? My house isn’t for sale.” ““Well, then why do you have a ‘for sale’ sign in your yatd?’’ asked the man. Sure enough, when Bob looked there was a “for sale’’ sign in front of his house. Now, the question is— who put it there? DID YOU HEAR? Jay Houseal of Maytown recently returned from a vacation in the Virgin Islands. Will the islands ever be the same? DID YOU HEAR...
