Jr. McDevitts honored Bernard R. and Kathryn McDevitt celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday night, August Sth, at Mr. Lacy’s Lounge in Marietta. The surprise celebration was planned and attended by their two sons and their families: Michael P. Mec- Devitt, his wife Jessie, and their five children, Danette, Colleen, Michael, Kelly, and Staci; and Pat McDe- vitt, his wife Charlene, and their oldest daughter, Sheila. (Two-year-old Kate did not attend.) The party was attended by 22 other guests, all long -time friends of the family. Barney and Kit were married on August 8, 1938, in the Catholic rectory in Marietta. Both are lifetime residents of Marietta, where Mr. McDevitt had been active in politics for many years. Both are now retired and enjoying more leisure time. Congratulations! August 9, 1978 Mount Joy Borough Authority meets Mount Joy Borough Au- thority met last week and heard a presentation by C.C. Collings, investment bankers, asking to be considered for the sewer bond. No action was taken. The Authority discussed the problem of the sink hole at well site #1 and gave borough manager Joe Bateman authority to repair it as soon as possible. The Authority received a negative declaration from the E.P.A. They expect a grant offer by September 1. They also discussed the proposed erection of a fence around the David Street standpipe. Vandal- ism has been a problem there. No decision was reached. Mount Joy Swim Team honored Twenty-three swimmers were honored on Thursday, August 3, 1978, at their annual Mount Joy Lions Parent Swim Team Club’s Picnic. Trophies were given to the Most Outstanding and Most Im- proved Swimmer in each Age Group. MOST OUT- STANDING SWIMMER AWARD for the girls vere: 8 & Under-Melody Weller, 10 & Under-Missy Wetzel, 12 & Under-Amy Hess, 14 & Under-Betsy Germer, 17 & Under-Sherri Kinsey. MOST IMPROVED were: 8 & Under-Michelle Dishart, 10 & Under-Krisi Woody, 12 & Under-Beth Russell, 14 & Under-Cindy Peiffer, 17 & Under-Becky Zimmer- man. MOST OUTSTANDING SWIMMER AWARD for the boys were: 8 & Under-Andy Breault, 10 & Under-Jay Darkey, 12 & Under-Mark Shearer, 14 & Under-Mike Jones, 17 & Under-Rick Kinsey. MOST IMPROVED were 8 & Under-Mike Fund, 10 & Under-Kevin Jones, 12 & Under-Matthew Keller, 14 & Under-Pat Moran, 17 & Under-Mitch Mummaw. GRADUATING SENIOR AWARDS were given to Rick Kinsey, Jim Johnson and Chris Rice. HIGH POINT RECORD AWARD went to Sherri Kinsey. Money was given to the swimmers who sold the most pizzas. Scott Ney-Butter, Andy Breault-Free, Mike Funk-Back, Tim McGarvey- Breast, Missy Wetzel- Breast, Rodney Fellen- baum-Back, and the 12 & Under Girls Relay with Dee Arndt, Stacey Gingrich, Hope Madara and Amy Hess. Twenty-nine swimmers Swam for Cancer on Wed- nesday, July 26, 1978, and raised over a thousand dollars to earn a ‘‘Swim For Cancer Flag.’ Bill Dishart, 14 & Under, earned $418 with pledges for the Cancer Fund. The Mount Joy Lions Swim Team, coached by Laurie Bryson and assisted by John Hayman, finished the season this year with a 3 & 3 record in Div. II. The swim team is sponsored nd supported by the Aount Joy Lions Club. The Mount Joy Lions Parent Swim Team Club would like to thank everyone who supported the team during their Pizza Sale and for their Cancer Pledges and especially the Mount Joy Lions! CE SR mn
